Identical (musical)
''Identical'' is a stage musical with music by George Stiles, lyrics by Anthony Drewe and a book by Stuart Paterson. It is based on the 1949 novel ''Lisa and Lottie'' by Erich Kästner (which also became the basis for many adaptations including Disney's ''The Parent Trap''-film series which began with a 1961 film). Plot As with the novel, the musical follows the story of twin girls who were separated at birth who meet at summer camp ten years later before swapping places to reunite with their parents and live each other's lives. Production The musical was due to have its world premiere at the Nottingham Playhouse before transferring to the Theatre Royal, Bath over the summer of 2020. However, due to the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic in the United Kingdom, the production was delayed until 2022, playing at the Nottingham Playhouse from 26 July until 14 August before transferring to The Lowry, Salford from 19 August until 3 September. George Stiles (composer)
George William Stiles (born 9 August 1961) is an English composer of musicals for the stage. Education From 1974 to 1979, he was educated at Gresham's School in Norfolk. Stiles studied music at Exeter University, where he met his writing partner Anthony Drewe. He graduated in 1983. Collaboration with Anthony Drewe For more than 30 years, Stiles has worked with the lyricist Anthony Drewe. Together they have written eleven shows (see below). Projects currently in development include: ''Soap Dish''; an adaptation of Graham Greene's ''Travels with My Aunt''; and a new project with the director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell. Tutankhamun ''Tutankhamun'' was first performed at the Northcott Theatre and Imagination Buildings in 1984. Theatre Royal, Bath
The Theatre Royal in Bath, England, was built in 1805. A Grade II* listed building, it has been described by the Theatres Trust as "One of the most important surviving examples of Georgian theatre architecture". It has a capacity for an audience of around 900. The Theatre Royal was built to replace the Old Orchard Street Theatre, funded by a Tontine and elaborately decorated. The architect was George Dance the Younger, with John Palmer carrying out much of the work. It opened with a performance of Shakespeare's Richard III and hosted performances by many leading actors of the time including Dorothea Jordan, William Macready and Edmund Kean. A major fire in 1862 destroyed the interior of the building and was quickly followed by a rebuilding programme by Charles J. Phipps, which included the construction of the current entrance. Louise Gold
Louise Gold (born 1956) is an English puppeteer, actress and singer whose career has spanned more than four decades. She is best known for her work as a puppeteer on television and for roles in musical theatre in the West End. Gold was raised in London, beginning training in the arts at an early age. She began to appear in musical theatre in the mid-1970s. She was a puppeteer and voice actress for ''The Muppet Show'', for four seasons from 1977, and later for ''Sesame Street'', and she has performed voice and puppet work on various other Muppet films, albums and television specials. Sir Trevor Robert Nunn (born 14 January 1940) is a British theatre director. He has been the Artistic Director for the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Royal National Theatre, and, currently, the Theatre Royal, Haymarket. The Lowry
The Lowry is a theatre and gallery complex at Salford Quays, Salford, Greater Manchester, England. It is named after the early 20th-century painter L. S. Lowry, known for his paintings of industrial scenes in North West England. The complex opened on 28 April 2000 and was officially opened on 12 October 2000 by Queen Elizabeth II. ''The Parent Trap'' franchise consists of American family-comedies, including the original theatrical film, three made-for-television sequel movies, and a theatrical legacy sequel/ soft-remake.
