Idalia Gumbs
Britannia Idalia Gumbs (''née'' Carter; 17 June 1933 – 11 September 2000)''Social Security Death Index, 1935-2014''. Social Security Administration. was an Anguillan politician. She was the first woman to sit in the Anguilla House of Assembly. Gumbs was born in Sandy Hill, Anguilla, the daughter of Ashton Murray Carter and Mary M. Chance. She was named to the Anguilla Council in 1972. In 1976, Gumbs was elected to the Anguilla assembly, serving until 1980. Although a member of the government, Gumbs was opposed to Ronald Webster's dictatorial style of government and, in particular, was opposed to his handing of a land dispute. In 1977, she seconded a motion of no confidence against Webster's government. In the government formed after the motion succeeded, She served on the executive council as Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism. Ronald Webster
James Ronald Webster (2 March 19269 December 2016) was a politician from Anguilla. After ending the Saint Christopher-Nevis-Anguilla federation in 1967, he served as the island territory's first Chief Minister of Anguilla, Chief Minister from 10 February 1976 to 1 February 1977 and again from May 1980 to 12 March 1984. Webster was one of 8 children to survive infancy, out a family total of 16 children. He worked in a dairy farm-factory on Saint Martin (island), Saint Martin for 27 years. The owner and wife treated him as a son and left Webster with their entire estate, a small fortune. Webster returned to Anguilla in 1960 to find the island without electricity, paved streets or telephones.
