Idaho Legislature
The Idaho Legislature consists of the upper Idaho Senate and the lower Idaho House of Representatives. Idaho is divided into 35 legislative districts, which each elect one senator and two representatives. There are no term limits for either chamber. The crossing of upper and lower house districts into a single constituency is found in only seven U.S. state legislatures: Idaho, Arizona, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Washington. Idaho House Of Representatives
The Idaho House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the Idaho State Legislature. It consists of 70 representatives elected to two-year terms. The state is divided into 35 districts, each of which elects two representatives to separate seats. It meets at the Idaho State Capitol in Boise, Idaho, in the State Capitol Building. Composition of the House The Idaho House of Representatives has been continuously controlled by the Republican Party since the late 1950s, usually by a wide margin. Democrats picked up six seats in the 2006 elections. In the 2010 elections Republicans won back many of those seats, gaining five. Max Black (politician)
Max Clark Black (July 2, 1936 – November 10, 2023) was an American politician who was a Republican Idaho State Representative for District 15 in the B seat from 1993 to 2012. Background Black was born in Delta, Utah on July 2, 1936. He graduated from Delta High School and earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Utah. Black died in Boise, Idaho on November 10, 2023, at the age of 87. Elections 2010 Black won the May 25, 2010, Republican primary with 2,007 votes (58.3%) against Mark Patterson, with no Democratic primary, and Gardner again as the Libertarian nominee. Steve Smylie
R. Steve Smylie (born October 3, 1953) is an American politician who served in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1999 to 2006. He unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for State Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2006 and later served as a member of the West Ada School Board from 2016 to 2020. Early life, education, and career Smylie was born in Moscow, Idaho. He is the son of three-term Idaho Governor Robert Smylie. Idaho House of Representatives In 1999, when Paul Kjellander resigned his seat in the legislature to accept appointment to the Idaho Public Utilities Commission, Governor Dirk Kempthorne appointed Smylie to fill Kjellander's unexpired term. John Andreason
John C. Andreason (April 20, 1929 – October 16, 2017) was an American politician. Life and career John Andreason was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and lived in Boise, Idaho. Andreason graduated from Arco High School in 1947. Andreason attended Idaho State University and received his B.S. in Political Science from the University of Idaho in 1974. He was a Master Sergeant for the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1958. Before becoming a Senator, Andreason was the Director of the Idaho Legislative Budget Office for 23 years. Andreason served in many civic organizations and held many political offices. Andreason served a term from 1969 to 1970 in the Idaho State Senate before he was elected again in 1995. Andreason served until 2012. He was married to Darlene Andreason and they had four children together. Andreason was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mark Patterson (Idaho Politician)
Mark Patterson is a Republican Idaho State Representative who represented District 15 in the B seat from 2012 to 2014. He gained notoriety in 2013 when it was revealed he had lied about a prior sexual assault conviction on his concealed carry permit. Elections Patterson challenged Representative Max Black in the 2010 Republican Primary Election, for District 15, losing by 570 votes. In 2012, Black retired and left the District 15 B seat open. Patterson won the Republican Primary with 60.1 percent of the vote. He went on to win the general election with 53.1 percent of the vote against Democratic nominee Steve Berch.
