Iceland In The Eurovision Song Contest 2009
Iceland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song " Is It True?" written by Óskar Páll Sveinsson, Tinatin Japaridze and Christopher Neil. The song was performed by Yohanna, which is the artistic name of singer Jóhanna Guðrún Jónsdóttir. The Icelandic entry for the 2009 contest in Moscow, Russia was selected through the national final ''Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2009'', organised by the Icelandic broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV). Jóhanna Guðrún Jónsdóttir (born 16 October 1990), known outside Iceland as Yohanna, is an Icelandic-Danish singer. Beginning her music career as a child singer, Yohanna received international recognition after representing Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song " Is It True?", placing as the runner-up. This tied for the best result Iceland had ever achieved in the contest. Following the success at Eurovision, she released the studio album ''Butterflies and Elvis'' (2009). Örlygur Smári (born ) is an Icelandic producer/composer. Biography Smári was born in Iceland, Europe. Smári wrote Iceland's Eurovision Song Contest 2000 entry Tell Me!. He also wrote the song This Is My Life, which was the Icelandic entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008. In 2010, Smári teamed up with Hera Björk to write the song Je ne sais quoi, which represented Iceland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010. The song performed in the first semifinal on 25 May 2010 and came in third with 123 points. In the Grand Final four days later, however, the song came in 19th place having received 41 points. Páll Óskar Hjálmtýsson (born 16 March 1970), known internationally as Páll Óskar and Paul Oscar, is an Icelandic pop singer, songwriter and disc jockey. Eurobandið (Euroband) is the name of Icelandic technopop and dance duo Friðrik Ómar and Regína Ósk, who together represented Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade, Serbia. Eiríkur Hauksson (born 4 July 1959, in Reykjavik) is an Icelandic heavy metal vocalist. He represented Iceland at Eurovision in 1986 and in 2007. Career Eiríkur's career as a vocalist began in earnest when the song "Sekur" he wrote and performed with the Icelandic rock group Start was voted the Icelandic song of the year in 1981. In 1984 Eiríkur's metal group Drýsill, released the album "Welcome to the show" which was released in 1000 copies. In 1985 Eiríkur recorded two songs, "Gaggó Vest" and "Gull", written by Gunnar Þórðarson that both became popular in Iceland. Ingólfur Þórarinsson (born 31 May 1986), commonly known as Ingó Veðurguð (''Ingó the Weather God''), is an Icelandic singer and songwriter and a former footballer. He plays with the band Ingó og Veðurguðirnir, best known for the 2008 hit song "Bahama" and the 2009 song "Gestalistinn".
