Iceland Women's National Football Team
The Iceland women's national football team represents Iceland in international women's football. They are currently ranked as the 17th best women's national team in the world by FIFA as of December 2019. On 30 October 2008, the national team qualified to the 2009 UEFA Women's Championship, the first major football tournament Iceland ever took part in, having previously competed in the 1995 UEFA Women's Championship which was a home and away knockout competition. At the 2013 UEFA Women's Championship, they took their first point in a major championship, following a draw against Norway in the opening game. Dagný Brynjarsdóttir
Dagný Brynjarsdóttir (born 10 August 1991) is an Icelandic professional footballer who plays for West Ham United in the FA Women's Super League and the Iceland national team. She previously played for Bayern Munich, Selfoss, and collegiate soccer for the Florida State Seminoles. Early life and education Dagný started playing football when she was six years old, with her first club, KFR from Hella and Hvolsvöllur. She played for them in 2006 as they competed in a joint effort with Ægir from Þorlákshöfn. Since 2007 she has played for Valur from Reykjavík in the best women's league in Iceland, Úrvalsdeild. The 2022 SheBelieves Cup, named the 2022 SheBelieves Cup Presented by Visa for sponsorship reasons, was the seventh edition of the SheBelieves Cup, an invitational Women's association football, women's football tournament held in the United States. Featuring national teams from Czech Republic women's national football team, Czech Republic, Iceland women's national football team, Iceland, New Zealand women's national football team, New Zealand, and hosts United States women's national soccer team, United States, it began on February 17 and ended on February 23, 2022. Bryndís Einarsdóttir (born 29 May 1958) is an Icelandic former footballer who was a member of Iceland's ignaural national team in 1981 where she scored Iceland's first ever goal. Club career She played the majority of her career with Breiðablik. In June 1973, she scored 4 goals in Breiðablik's 14–0 victory against Haukar. On 1 September 1983, she arrived to Breiðablik's game against ÍA straight from Keflavík Airport and was substituted into the game when seven minutes into the second half. The Norway women's national football team is controlled by the Football Association of Norway. The team is former European, World and Olympic champions and thus one of the most successful national teams. The team has had less success since the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup.
