The Iceland International in badminton is an international open held in Iceland Iceland ( is, Ísland; ) is a Nordic island country in the North Atlantic Ocean and in the Arctic Ocean. Iceland is the most sparsely populated country in Europe. Iceland's capital and largest city is Reykjavík, which (along with its s ... since 1986. The tournament belongs to the EBU Circuit. Badminton
Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" (with one player per side) and "doubles" (with two players per side). Badminton is often played as a casual outdoor activity in a yard or on a beach; formal games are played on a rectangular indoor court. Points are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racquet and landing it within the opposing side's half of the court. Each side may only strike the shuttlecock once before it passes over the net. Play ends once the shuttlecock has struck the floor or if a fault has been called by the umpire, service judge, or (in their absence) the opposing side. The shuttlecock is a feathered or (in informal matches) plastic projectile which flies differently from the balls used in many other sports. David Wright (born 10 April 1965) is a former English badminton international player and two times English National doubles champion. Biography Wright who represented Yorkshire became an English National doubles champion after winning the English National Badminton Championships men's doubles title with Nick Ponting in 1991. Simon David Archer MBE (born 27 June 1973) is an English former badminton player. Archer once held the world record for the fastest smash at 162 mph. Career Summer Olympics Archer competed in badminton at the 1996 Summer Olympics in doubles, with Chris Hunt. They were knocked out in the quarterfinals. In 2000 he coupled with Nathan Robertson, but they too lost in the quarterfinals, this time to Tony Gunawan and Candra Wijaya of Indonesia. However, Archer also competed in mixed doubles with Joanne Goode and won a bronze medal.
