Icebreaker At The Granite
The Icebreaker Challenge is an annual cashspiel, or curling tournament, that takes place in Manitoba. The Event was part of the World Curling Tour from 2017 to 2019. The 2016 event was known as the 2016 Performance Spider Midweek Special and was held in Waterloo, Ontario and was only part of the Ontario Curling Tour. The 2016 event included both genders, and in 2017 a separate women's event was added. Both the 2017 and 2018 events were held at the Granite Curling Club in Winnipeg. The 2017 event was known as the Spider Performance Icebreaker At The Granite and in 2018 it was known as the GOLDLINE Icebreaker At The Granite. Morris, Manitoba
Morris is a small town in the Pembina Valley region of Manitoba, Canada, located 51 km south of Winnipeg and 42 km north of Emerson. Morris is home to 1,885 people (2016). Named after Alexander Morris, the second Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba. Highway 75, which turns into Interstate 29, is the major highway which runs from Winnipeg to Missouri. Morris is the only town in which Highway 75 is called "Main Street". Matt Hamilton (curler)
Matthew James Hamilton (born February 19, 1989) is an American curler from McFarland, Wisconsin. He is a World Junior Champion, World Men's bronze medalist, and Olympic gold medalist. Hamilton currently plays second for the Duluth, Minnesota-based John Shuster team. Curling career 2007–2014: Early career Hamilton played for skip Jeremy Roe at the 2007 and 2008 United States Men's National Championships, placing seventh and ninth, respectively. In 2008 he also joined Chris Plys' junior team, who had won the National Junior Championship the two previous years. Chris Plys
Christopher Plys (; born August 13, 1987) is an American curler from Duluth, Minnesota. He is a Junior World Champion and two-time National Men's Champion. He was the alternate for the United States men's team at the 2010 Winter Olympics and a member of both the men's team and the mixed doubles team at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Career Plys started curling in 1998 at the age of eleven. He competed at seven Junior National Championships in a row, winning five of them, including four in a row as skip to finish his junior career. This gives him more junior national titles as skip than any other junior male. As US Champion, he competed at four World Junior Championships. Ian McMillan (curler)
Ian McMillan (born July 17, 1991 in Dryden, Ontario) is a Canadian curler from Winnipeg, Manitoba. He currently plays second on Team Tanner Horgan. Career McMillan is most notable for winning the 2017 Tour Challenge Tier 2 Grand Slam of Curling event playing second for Jason Gunnlaugson. The team finished sixth on the CTRS standings that season. McMillan left the team the following season and joined the Braden Calvert rink. Team Calvert had a fairly successful first season together, beginning with the 2018 Icebreaker at The Granite where they won the event title. They also won The Sunova Spiel at East St. Paul and the Thistle Integrity Stakes the following two months and had semifinal appearances at both the DeKalb Superspiel and the KKP Classic. 2018 Icebreaker At The Granite
The 2018 GOLDLINE Icebreaker at The Granite was held from August 24 to 26 at the Granite Curling Club in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was the second event on the World Curling Tour for the 2018–19 season. The men's event was held in a double knockout format and the women's event was held in a round robin format. On the men's side, Braden Calvert's rink from Winnipeg defeated John Shuster's team from Duluth 4–3 in the final. Team Calvert also won the event the previous season. John Landsteiner
John Landsteiner (born May 19, 1990) is an American curler and two-time Olympian. He competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics and won gold as part of John Shuster's team in the 2018 Winter Olympics. Career Landsteiner was a prolific junior curler, playing in the United States Junior Curling Championships six times every year from 2007 through 2011. His best finish was in 2008 when he earned the bronze medal playing lead for Brad Caldwell. In 2011 Landsteiner participated at the World Junior Championships as alternate for Aaron Wald's team. Since aging out of juniors in 2012, Landsteiner has played lead for John Shuster's team. Joe Polo
Joseph Polo (born December 10, 1982) is an American curler who is best known for winning a bronze medal at the 2006 Winter Olympics and being the alternate on the gold-medal winning United States men's team at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Polo was raised in Floodwood, Minnesota before moving to Cass Lake. He learned to curl in nearby Bemidji at the age of 10 in the Bemidji Curling Club's Sunday Night Junior League. Tyler George (born October 6, 1982) is an American curler from Duluth, Minnesota. He is a three-time U.S. Champion, 2016 World bronze medalist, and 2018 Olympic gold medalist.
