Ice And Fire (charity)
iceandfire is a London-based charity. Its stated mission is to explore human rights stories through theatrical performance. It also runs Actors for Human Rights, a network of volunteer actors across the UK. History iceandfire was founded in 2003 by playwright Sonja Linden inspired by her seven years as writer in residence at the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture (now Freedom from Torture). Their first theatrical production was ''I Have Before Me a Remarkable Document Given to me by a Young Lady From Rwanda'' (2003), which opened at the Finborough Theatre in London and has since been performed across Europe and the United States of America. Freedom From Torture
Freedom from Torture (previously known as The Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture) is a British registered charity which provides therapeutic care for survivors of torture who seek protection in the UK. Since it was established in 1985, over 57,000 survivors of torture have been referred to the organisation for help and it is one of the world’s largest torture treatment centres. Freedom from Torture provides medical and psychological documentation of torture, a range of rehabilitation therapies, including psychotherapy, individual and family counselling, physiotherapy and complementary group work as well as practical advice and support. It trains health, legal and policy professionals throughout the UK to work with the complex needs and rights of torture survivors. Actors For Refugees
Actors for Refugees is an Australian community organisation. It was founded in Melbourne in September 2001 by actresses Alice Garner and Kate Atkinson. It aimed to use the collective power of Australian actors to influence community attitudes toward refugees and asylum seekers and to encourage a humanitarian response to their plight. The network's main activity was performing 'Something to Declare' compiled by Michael Gurr, and Club Refuge; rehearsed readings of true stories and first-hand testimonies of asylum seekers and refugees in Australia. Alice Miriam Olivia Garner is an Australian actor, author, musician, teacher and historian. She is the daughter of Australian novelist and screenwriter Helen Garner and playwright, historian and actor Bill Garner.
