Ibi, Burkina Faso
Ibi, Burkina Faso is a village in Rollo Department of Bam Province in northern Burkina Faso, West Africa. It has a population of 1374, mostly Mossi peoples. It is accessed by a track from Rollo and is very remote, even by the standards of northern Burkina Faso. There are no vehicles in the village other than mopeds, carts and bicycles and traditional agriculture is the main occupation. The community is split into two hamlets, old and new Ibi, separated by about 1 km. Per Law No.40/98/AN in 1998, Burkina Faso adhered to decentralization to provide administrative and financial autonomy to local communities. The provinces of Burkina Faso are divided into 351 departments (as of 2014 and since local elections of 2012), whose urbanized areas (cities, towns and villages) are grouped into the same commune (municipality) with the same name as the department. The department also covers rural areas (including national natural parks) that are not governed locally by the elected municipal council of the commune (presided by its mayor, with representants elected for each village or urban sector), but by the state represented at departmental level by a prefect (supervized by the haut-commissaire of its province, themself assisted by a general secretary and acting under the hierarchic authority the governor of its region, all of them being nominated by the national government). Rollo, Burkina Faso
Rollo is a small town of 7783 people and the capital of Rollo Department, Bam Province, Burkina Faso, West Africa. The Department of Rollo has 25,000 adults, and in 2007, as part of national political decentralisation, Issa Ouermi was elected mayor of Rollo Department. Rollo is reached by an unmade road, taking half an hour by motorbike or considerably longer in a vehicle, from the main N-S Kongoussi-Bourzanga road that links Ouagadougou to the north of the country. Past Rollo to the west are many villages, before the Province of Yatenga is entered - its capital Ouahigouya, is a couple of hours away by motorbike. There are a couple of small shops, an occasional restaurant, a couple of small government outposts including the Prefecture and the post of the resident agricultural extension agent, and a small Catholic mission.
