Iasmos
Iasmos ( el, Ίασμος; tr, Yassıköy; ) is a town and a municipality in the Rhodope regional unit of Thrace, Greece. It is built on the side of the Rhodope Mountains. Although references about the village date back to the 16th Century, it is likely that those references are about the old location of the village, a few kilometres west of the current position. The actual date that the inhabitants settled in the current place is between the late 18th century and 1814 (the latter date is inscribed on the wall of the oldest church in the village). Rhodope (regional Unit)
Rhodope ( el, Ροδόπη, ''Rodópi'' ) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of East Macedonia and Thrace. Its name is derived from the Rhodope Mountains, which cover the northern part of its territory. Together with the regional units Evros and Xanthi, it forms the geographical region of Western Thrace. The capital of the prefecture is the city of Komotini. The second largest town is Sapes. Most of the Muslims of Thrace, the only officially recognized minority in Greece, are settled in this area, where they form around half of the regional unit's population. Geography Rhodope borders on the regional unit Xanthi to the west and Evros to the east, and on Bulgaria's Kardzhali Province to the north. The Aegean Sea lies to the south. Amaxades ( el, Αμαξάδες, Bulgarian: Арабаджи, tr, Arabacıköy) is a village and a former community in the Rhodope regional unit, East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece. George Chouliarakis
George Chouliarakis ( el, Γιώργος Χουλιαράκης), also transliterated as Giorgos Houliarakis, is a Greek academic and politician who served as an Alternate Minister of Finance in the Second Cabinet of Alexis Tsipras, serving under Euclid Tsakalotos. Chouliarakis was formerly the interim Minister of Finance in the caretaker government led by Vassiliki Thanou-Christophilou. He is currently a lecturer in economics at the University of Manchester, and was also the chief negotiator for the Greek government in the run-up to the third bailout package. Education Chouliarakis was born in Iasmos and studied economics at the University of Athens, before completing a Master's degree at the University of London. He later completed his PhD in economics at the University of Warwick. Kostas Lazaridis
Kostas Lazaridis (1900–1943) was a famous Greek trade unionist. He was a member of Central Committee of Greek Communist Party. Also he was a General Secretary of the worker's section of National Liberation Front (Greece). Early years He was born in 1900 in Iasmos, which was then part of the Ottoman Empire. From his youth he became a communist member and took part in several Greek elections. In Metaxas dictatorship he will be a political outlaw. In 1937 he was arrested and went to prison. The dictatorship delivered him along with the others political prisoners to Axis Forces. In the prison of Akronauplia he learned some words from a Slavic dialect, and with the permission of Giannis Ioannides (2nd in KKE ranks) he declared Bulgarian ethnicity in order to get free and reconstruct the Greek communist Party. Rhodope Mountains
The Rhodopes (; bg, Родопи, ; el, Ροδόπη, ''Rodopi''; tr, Rodoplar) are a mountain range in Southeastern Europe, and the largest by area in Bulgaria, with over 83% of its area in the southern part of the country and the remainder in Greece. Golyam Perelik is its highest peak at .
