Ian Robert Young, AO (born 17 January 1957) is an Australian academic. He is the Kernot Professor of Engineering at the University of Melbourne. He previously held the senior administrative roles of Vice-Chancellor of Swinburne University of Technology (2003–2011) and Vice-Chancellor of the Australian National University (2011–2016). Young's field of research is Marine engineering, Ocean Engineering and particularly the role of Wind wave, wind-generated ocean waves. His work has focused on the development of global wave prediction models, extreme wind and wave conditions, tropical cyclone generated waves, nearshore sea states and the role of global winds and waves in climate change. Ian Curtis Young (born September 27, 1981) is an American-Trinidadian professional basketball player. Standing at 6 ft 3 in (1.91 m), Young primarily plays as point guard. Young played 13 professional years overseas in various countries. Before turning professional, Ian was an All-SEC point guard at Auburn University and a 2-Time Junior College All-American at Des Moines Area CC (DMACC). Ian Young (born January 5, 1945) is an English-Canadian poet, editor, literary critic, and historian. He was a member of the University of Toronto Homophile Association, the first post-Stonewall gay organization in Canada. He founded Canada's first gay publishing company, Catalyst Press, in 1970, printing over thirty works of poetry and fiction by Canadian, British, and American writers until the press ceased operation in 1980. Ian Robert Young (11 January 1932 – 27 September 2019) was a British medical physicist, known for his work in the field of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Life He was educated at Sedbergh School and later studied physics at Aberdeen University, then worked for EMI from 1976 to 1981, then for GEC from 1981 to 1982, when he became Chief Scientist of the NMR division of Picker International upon its creation. He became visiting professor of radiology at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School in 1986. He was visiting professor at the Imperial College School of Medicine at Hammersmith Hospital from 1983 to 2001. He is also senior research fellow at Hirst Research Centre.
