Ian Wright (percussionist)
Ian Wright was born in Aberdeen, United Kingdom. He studied mathematics at the University of Aberdeen before embarking on a career in music. His main interest outside music is travelling, especially when it involves walking and cycling. Career Wright was made a fellow of the Royal Northern College of Music in 1988. He was involved in the preparation of the first percussion syllabus for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), a task which included writing the pieces for the four timpani books and some of the snare drum pieces for the examinations. He is presently a diploma examiner for the ABRSM. The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) is a conservatoire located in Manchester, England. It is one of four conservatoires associated with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. In addition to being a centre of music education, RNCM is one of the UK's busiest and most diverse public performance venues. National Youth Orchestra Of Great Britain
The National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain (NYO-GB) is the national youth orchestra of the United Kingdom, consisting of 164 members of ages 13 to 19 years. Their mission is to "give thrilling experiences of orchestral music to teenage musicians and audiences who need them most." Auditions take place in the autumn each year at various locations in the country. The minimum standard needed to audition is ABRSM / Trinity Guildhall / London College of Music Grade 8 Distinction, though it is not necessary to have taken any examinations. In 2011, the orchestra was shortlisted for the Royal Philharmonic Society's Best Ensemble Award. In 2012, the NYO received the Queen's Medal for Music. Kevin Hathway
Kevin Hathway is an English percussionist and educator. Besides being a member of the Philharmonia Orchestra, a position he has held since 1979, he is head of wind, brass and percussion at the Purcell School. He is a diploma examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and co-devised their timpani, snare drum and tuned percussion examination syllabus. From 1986 until 2007, he was head of the percussion faculty at the Royal College of Music. He creates and presents numerous concerts aimed at younger audiences and his unique Elastic Band – a micro-orchestra of 15 musicians – is in great demand throughout the UK and abroad. His themed family concerts for the Philharmonia are a concept he uses with MusicQuest, Britten Sinfonia, Southbank Sinfonia and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.
