Ian Peel (journalist)
, Ian Peel (born 1972) is a British music journalist. He is most well known as founder of the magazines ''Classic Pop (magazine), Classic Pop'' and ''Long Live Vinyl'' and as a writer with special interests in Eighties pop music, ZTT Records, 12" remixes and Paul McCartney. He has written as a regular columnist for ''The Guardian'', ''DJ Mag'', ''Record Collector'', ''Net (magazine), net'' and ''Music Business International'' (sister publication of ''Music Week''). His work has also appeared in ''The Times'', ''BlackBook'' and ''Sound on Sound''. 12" Remixes Peel is a longstanding commentator on, and curator of, 12-inch single and remixes. He wrote ''Classic Pop''s ''Top 50 12"s of the Eighties'' special edition, and curated three volumes of the compilation series ''The Art of the 12"''. Classic Pop (magazine)
''Classic Pop'' is a bi-monthly British music magazine, which launched in October 2012. It was devised and founded by Ian Peel (journalist), Ian Peel, who was also editor for the first 19 issues. Rik Flynn stepped in as editor until Issue 23 followed by current editor Steve Harnell. Ian Peel remains involved as Founder & Editor-at-Large. Launched as a bi-monthly magazine by Anthem Publishing, Classic Pop had become a monthly magazine by the time Anthem temporarily paused publication of the title in April 2020 due to Covid-19. After a break of three months, which saw Anthem cease publication of sister magazine "Long Live Vinyl", Classic Pop returned as a bi-monthly publication with occasional special editions (such as "Synthpop Volume 2: Electric Dreams"). DJ Food
DJ Food is an electronic music project currently headed by Kevin Foakes (also known as "Strictly Kev"). Originally conceived by the members of Coldcut on the Ninja Tune independent record label, the project started in 1990 on the premise of providing metaphorical "food for DJs". DJ Food released the Jazz Brakes series, with ''Jazz Brakes Volume 3'' being the most successful. The records consisted of collections of breaks, loops and samples that could be used for mixing, remixing and producing. The later DJ Food albums have developed with shades of Latin, dub, breakbeat, ambient, and drum and bass. The 1995 album ''A Recipe for Disaster'' was a conscious move away from the Jazz Brakes volumes to form more of an identity as an artist, and a remix album of tracks from all six LPs, entitled ''Refried Food'' was released the following year. Wings were a British-American Rock music, rock band formed in 1971 by former The Beatles, Beatle bassist Paul McCartney, his wife Linda McCartney on keyboards, session drummer Denny Seiwell, and former Moody Blues guitarist Denny Laine. Middle Of The Road (music)
Middle of the road (also known by its acronym MOR) is a commercial radio format and popular music genre. Music associated with this term is strongly melodic and uses techniques of vocal harmony and light orchestral arrangements. The format was eventually rebranded as soft adult contemporary. Etymology and usage According to music academic Norman Abjorensen, "middle of the road" has referred to a commercial radio format more often than a music genre, although "it has been used to describe a broad type of music" of numerous styles, usually characterized by vocal harmony techniques, prominent melodies, and subtle orchestral arrangements. David Toop (born 5 May 1949) is an English musician, author, curator, and Emeritus Professor. From 2013 to 2021 he was professor of audio culture and improvisation at the London College of Communication. Yoko Ono
Yoko Ono ( ; ja, 小野 洋子, Ono Yōko, usually spelled in katakana ; born February 18, 1933) is a Japanese multimedia artist, singer, songwriter, and peace activist. Her work also encompasses performance art and filmmaking. Ono grew up in Tokyo and moved to New York City in 1953 with her family. Irwin Allen Ginsberg (; June 3, 1926 – April 5, 1997) was an American poet and writer. As a student at Columbia University in the 1940s, he began friendships with William S. "Carnival of Light" is an unreleased avant-garde recording by the English rock band the Beatles. It was commissioned for the Million Volt Light and Sound Rave, an event held at the Roundhouse in London on 28 January and 4 February 1967. Recorded during a session for the song "Penny Lane", "Carnival of Light" is nearly 14 minutes long and contains distorted, echo-laden sounds of percussion, keyboards, guitar and vocals. Liverpool Sound Collage
''Liverpool Sound Collage'' is an album by Paul McCartney released in 2000. The album is also credited to the Beatles, Super Furry Animals and Youth; but because McCartney was so heavily involved in its creation, in addition to his production credit, ''Liverpool Sound Collage'' is filed under his name. Asked by artist Peter Blake to create something musical and with a Liverpool spirit to it, in order to complement his concurrent artwork exhibition, McCartney ended up harking all the way back to session chatter by the Beatles (hence their "involvement") and using snippets of his 1991 classical piece '' Paul McCartney's Liverpool Oratorio'' to create the tracks for the album. The Fireman are an English experimental music duo of Paul McCartney and Youth formed in 1993. Their music catalogue ranges from rock to electronica, evolving over more than two decades and three albums.
