Ian Koziara
Ian Koziara is an American operatic tenor who made an international career at major opera houses, such as the Oper Frankfurt and the Metropolitan Opera. Career Born in Chicago, Koziara received a bachelor's degree from Lawrence University Conservatory of Music, and a master's degree from Rice University's Shepherd School of Music. He made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, as Enrique in ''The Exterminating Angel'' by Thomas Adès. Further roles at the house included Derek in Nico Muhly's ''Marnie'' and the Pony Express Rider in Puccini's ''La Fanciulla del West''. These performances appeared in the live broadcasts of the opera house. In 2018, Koziara performed the title role of Mozart's '' Ideomeneo'' with the Wolf Trap Opera. Damiano Michieletto (born 1975) is an Italian stage director especially known for opera. He has staged productions at leading opera houses and festivals worldwide. His awards include the 2015 Laurence Olivier Award for the production of Mascagni's ''Cavalleria rusticana'' and Leoncavallo's ''Pagliacci'' at the Royal Opera House in London. Career Michieletto was born in Venice and grew up in Scorzè, a village in the Metropolitan City of Venice. Jennifer Holloway is an American operatic mezzo-soprano and soprano who has made an international career performing at leading opera houses and festivals. She began as a mezzo-soprano singing roles such as Adalgisa in Bellini's ''Norma'', and moved to soprano roles such as '' Salome'' and Grete Graumann in Schreker's ''Der ferne Klang''. Career Holloway was born in Ohio. She studied voice at the University of Georgia and the Manhattan School of Music. Sebastian Weigle (born 1961, in East Berlin) is a German conductor and horn player. Biography Weigle is a nephew of the conductor and music educator Jörg-Peter Weigle and the brother of the late violist Friedemann Weigle of the Artemis Quartet. ''Der ferne Klang'' (''The Distant Sound'') is an opera by Franz Schreker, set to his own libretto. Begun in 1903, it was first performed by the Oper Frankfurt on 18 August 1912. It was the composer's breakthrough to fame, and was frequently performed up until 1931, shortly after which the composer's music was proscribed by the Nazi regime. Largely forgotten after World War II, it has been revived by several opera companies in the 21st century. Composition history Drafted in 1901, Schreker completed the three-act libretto in 1903. However, composing the music would take about ten years. Criticism from his composition teacher Robert Fuchs caused Schreker to abandon the project for the first time in 1903. ' (Italian for ''Idomeneus, King of Crete, or, Ilia and Idamante''; usually referred to simply as ''Idomeneo'', K. 366) is an Italian language opera seria by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The libretto was adapted by Giambattista Varesco from a French text by Antoine Danchet, based on a 1705 play by Crébillion père, which had been set to music by André Campra as ''Idoménée'' in 1712. Mozart and Varesco were commissioned in 1780 by Karl Theodor, Elector of Bavaria for a court carnival. He probably chose the subject, though it may have been Mozart. The work premiered on 29 January 1781 at the Cuvilliés Theatre in Munich, Germany.
