Ian Gibson (Scottish Footballer)
Ian Gibson is a Scottish retired association football (soccer) player. Gibson is most notable for being a regular first team player for Fitzroy United Alexander in the Victorian State League. Gibson is also notable for playing for South Melbourne Hellas in the National Soccer League's inaugural season in 1977. Career Fitzroy United Alexander (1973-1976) After his arrival from Scotland, Gibson began his football career in Melbourne, Australia signing with Fitzroy United Alexander (now Heidelberg United) in the fast growing Victorian State League for the 1973 season. Gibson made his debut for the club in the second round on 8 April 1973, against future National Soccer League club South Melbourne Hellas in a 0-1 loss at Olympic Park Stadium. Forwards (also known as attackers) are outfield positions in an association football team who play the furthest up the pitch and are therefore most responsible for scoring goals as well as assisting them. Jack Reilly (footballer)
John Reilly (born 27 August 1943) is a former soccer player who played as a goalkeeper. Born in Scotland, he was a member of the Australia national team, representing the nation 35 times during the 1970s; he was in the 1974 FIFA World Cup squad. and also represented Victoria. Career Reilly learnt his goalkeeping skills while playing with local Aberdeenshire Junior sides Parkvale, in his hometown of Stonehaven, and Inverurie Loco Works, prior to moving to the reserve team of Hibernian. He made only two first appearances in the Scottish Football League before moving to American club Washington Whips in 1968. Reilly moved to Australia in 1970, signing with Melbourne Juventus. After showing immense talent during his debut season he was drafted into the Australia squad for a world tour. The National Soccer League (NSL) was the top-level soccer league in Australia, run by Soccer Australia and later the Australian Soccer Association.
