Ian Bailey (born 1959 in Kent, England) was the Head Buyer and later Financial Director of Games Workshop until 1985. He left Games Workshop to write books and develop games. He has had seven books published in three languages and three games in the UK and United States. He was a best-selling author in France with the ''Compton Murder'', an interactive detective book, published by Éditions Gallimard. Education Ian Bailey gained his first degree in English Literature with Anglo-Saxon at the University of York; he has a CIM Diploma in Marketing and a master's degree in European Marketing. Career Joined Games Workshop Ltd in 1982, first as the Retail Buyer, then Head Buyer and finally Financial Director. In 1985 he left Games Workshop to write Adventure Game Books and found Hatch with Albie Fiore and Ian Waddelow, who were both former Games Workshop employees. Ian Philip Bailey, MM (born 1959) is a former British Army officer. As a corporal in 4 Platoon, B Company, 3rd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, he won the Military Medal for bravery during the Falklands War of 1982. He later sold the medal for a record price. Battle of Mount Longdon During the Battle of Mount Longdon on 12 June 1982, 4 Platoon's Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Bickerdyke, along with Sergeant Ian McKay, a signaller and several other paratroopers went forward to reconnoitre the enemy positions. During this action Bickerdyke and the signaller were wounded by a heavy machine-gun position, so McKay took over command of the platoon. He decided to turn his reconnaissance into an attack on the machine gun's position, which was seriously threatening any advance. He took Bailey, then aged 22, and three other men with him and they charged the position. Sophie Toscan du Plantier, a 39-year-old French woman, was killed outside her holiday home near Toormore, Goleen, County Cork, Ireland, on the night of 23 December 1996. British journalist Ian Bailey, who lived near Toscan du Plantier's home in Ireland, was a suspect arrested twice by the Garda Síochána, yet no charges were laid as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) found there was insufficient evidence to proceed to trial. Bailey lost a libel case against six newspapers in 2003. He also lost a wrongful arrest case against the Gardaí, Minister for Justice, and Attorney General in 2015. In 2019, Bailey was convicted of murder by the '' Cour d'Assises'' in Paris, France, and sentenced to 25 years in prison. He was tried '' in absentia'' in France after winning a legal battle against extradition. In 2020, Ireland's High Court ruled that Bailey could not be extradited.
