"I Sing the Body Electric" is a poem by Walt Whitman from his 1855 collection '' Leaves of Grass''. The poem is divided into nine sections, each celebrating a different aspect of human physicality. Its original publication, like the other poems in ''Leaves of Grass'', did not have a title. In fact, the line "I sing the body electric" was not added until the 1867 edition. At the time, ''electric'' was not yet a commonly used term. Walt Whitman
Walter Whitman (; May 31, 1819 – March 26, 1892) was an American poet, essayist and journalist. A humanist, he was a part of the transition between transcendentalism and realism, incorporating both views in his works. Whitman is among the most influential poets in the American canon, often called the father of free verse. His work was controversial in his time, particularly his 1855 poetry collection ''Leaves of Grass'', which was described as obscene for its overt sensuality. Born in Huntington on Long Island, Whitman resided in Brooklyn as a child and through much of his career. At the age of 11, he left formal schooling to go to work. Later, Whitman worked as a journalist, a teacher, and a government clerk. Whitman's major poetry collection, ''Leaves of Grass'', was first published in 1855 with his own money and became well known. Sincebyman
Sincebyman was a five-piece American band from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, founded in 1999. Their debut full-length album, ''We Sing the Body Electric'', was released on November 30, 2002. This was followed by ''A Love Hate Relationship'' (Revelation Records, 2004), a 4-song EP, and ''Pictures from the Hotel Apocalypse'' (Revelation Records, 2005), their final full length on Revelation Records. Following ''Pictures from the Hotel Apocalypse'', their contract with Revelation ended and the band was supposedly writing songs for a new album. On March 9, 2008, they disbanded according to a MySpace bulletin from the band. Their last show was in their hometown of Milwaukee on April 26, 2008. ''The Guardian'' is a British daily newspaper. It was founded in 1821 as ''The Manchester Guardian'', and changed its name in 1959. Icarus (band)
Icarus are a British band from London, England, specializing in electronic drum and bass with elements of experimental jazz and rich instrumentation. Formed in 1997 by cousins Ollie Bown and Sam Britton, the band's music has been described by Kieran Hebden as "really beautiful and also quite kind of evil". Hebden included an Icarus track, "Benevolent Incubator", on his ''Late Night Tales'' compilation, and Icarus also provided a remix of the Four Tet track "My Angel Rocks Back and Forth". Icarus have also remixed Murcof, Lunz, The Creatures, Spartak and Eclectic Method Featuring Chuck D. Tally Hall is an American rock band formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in December 2002. The band is known for upbeat melodies and whimsical lyrics. The members originally described their musical style as "wonky rock," later redefining their sound as "fabloo" ( ), in an effort to not let their music be defined by any particular genres after people began to start defining the characteristics of "wonky rock". Post-rock
Post-rock is a form of experimental rock characterized by a focus on exploring textures and timbre over traditional rock song structures, chords, or riffs. Post-rock artists are often instrumental, typically combining rock instrumentation with electronics. The genre emerged within the indie and underground music scene of the 1980s and early 1990s. However, due to its abandonment of rock conventions, it often bears little resemblance musically to contemporary indie rock, borrowing instead from diverse sources including ambient, electronica, jazz, krautrock, dub, and minimalist classical. ''Tropico'' is a 2013 musical short film directed by Anthony Mandler, based on the Biblical story of sin and redemption. Split into three chapters, the film was written by Lana Del Rey, who also starred alongside Shaun Ross. Del Rey plays a dual role, portraying the biblical figure of Eve, as well as Mary, the mother of Jesus, while Ross stars as Adam.
