Marvin Earl Johnson (October 15, 1938 – May 16, 1993) was an American R&B singer, songwriter and pianist. He was influential in the development of the Motown style of music, primarily for the song " Come to Me," which was the first record issued by Tamla Records, the precursor to the famous label. Despite his early success in the United States, Johnson ultimately enjoyed more popularity overseas than in his native country. His music was especially popular in the United Kingdom and Australia. Biography Johnson was born in Detroit. His early musical influences included gospel and blues, but he began his singing career with a doo-wop group, the Junior Serenaders, in the mid-1950s. Kings Of Rhythm
The Kings of Rhythm are an American music group formed in the late 1940s in Clarksdale, Mississippi and led by Ike Turner through to his death in 2007. Turner would retain the name of the band throughout his career, although the group has undergone considerable line-up changes over time. The group was an offshoot of a large big band ensemble called the Tophatters. By the late 1940s, Turner had renamed this group the Kings of Rhythm. Their early stage performances consisted largely of covers of popular jukebox hits of the day. In 1951, Turner and his Kings of Rhythm recorded the song "Rocket 88" (credited to Jackie Brenston and His Delta Cats)," which is a contender for the first rock and roll record. The Chosen Few (reggae Group)
The Chosen Few are a reggae group from Kingston, Jamaica, formed in 1969 and were popular until the mid-1980s. Today they still draw appreciative audiences around the globe. History The Chosen Few evolved from the Federals, with the latter's Franklin Spence and David Scott joined by Noel Bunny Brown and Richard McDonald. They initially recorded reggae covers of songs by artists such as Blue Mink and The Delfonics for producer Derrick Harriott. Scott left the group to embark on a solo career as a deejay, to be replaced by Busty Brown, formerly of the Messengers.
