The Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI; ) is a technology research and development institution in Taiwan. Founded in 1973, ITRI has contributed to moving Taiwan's industries from labor-intensive to innovation-driven. Stan Shih
Stan Shih (; born 18 December 1944), is the Co-founder & Honorary Chairman of Acer Inc. In 1976, after receiving bachelor's and master's degrees in electronic engineering from National Chiao Tung University, Shih founded Multitech with his wife Carolyn Yeh and five partners. Shih chaired Multitech through to 1987, when the company was renamed Acer, continuing as Acer chairman until his retirement in late 2004, having seen the company grow from a tiny start-up to a billion-dollar worldwide brand. Shih remained active in charity work during his retirement, including serving as Taiwan's Special Envoy in the APEC Australia 2007. Shu Shien-Siu (; 1912–2001), also known as S. S. Shu, was a Chinese/Taiwanese people, Taiwanese mathematician, engineer and educator. Biography Shu was born in Yongjia, Wenzhou, Zhejiang on 12 Sep 1912. Shu studied at Wenzhou High School. In 1935, Shu graduated from the Department of Mathematics of Tsinghua University in Beijing and obtained B.S. in mathematics. He worked as a teaching assistant at the department after his graduation. In 1944, Shu went to the United States to continue his study, and entered the Brown University. Shu obtained his PhD in applied mathematics in 1948, under the guidance of Charles Loewner. In 1949, Shu worked in Princeton, New Jersey, Princeton, and in that summer went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to do his postdoctoral research. Weng Cheng-yi
Weng Cheng-yi () is a Taiwanese mechanical engineer. Weng earned a doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Rochester. He joined the National Cheng Kung University faculty in 1980. Weng became president of NCKU in 1997. He was the inaugural chairman of the Aviation Safety Council, serving from 25 May 1998 to 19 May 2000. He was minister of the National Science Council from 20 May 2000 to 6 March 2001. Days after taking office, Weng was criticized by members of the Legislative Yuan for being unaware of council proceedings. An anonymous legislator accused Weng of plagiarism in June 2000. Lin Hsin-i
Lin Hsin-i (; born 2 December 1946) is a Taiwanese businessman. He served in the Democratic Progressive Party administration as Minister of Economic Affairs between 2000 and 2002, then as Vice Premier between 2002 and 2004. In November 2005, while a Senior Presidential Adviser, Lin attended the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Busan, South Korea, in place of Taiwan's President Chen Shui-bian. Because of opposition from the People's Republic of China, Taiwan's senior leaders are unable to attend APEC events in person and must send a ministerial-level envoy.
