INS Khanderi (2017)
INS ''Khanderi'' (S22) is the second of the Indian Navy's six s being built in India. It is a diesel-electric attack submarine which was designed by French naval defence and energy company DCNS and manufactured at Mazagon Dock Limited in Mumbai. The submarine inherits its name and pennant number from INS ''Khanderi'' (S22) which served in the Navy from 1968–1989, and was named after Maratha Emperor Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj's island fort of Khanderi. Construction The submarine was launched in the presence of Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba and other dignitaries on 12 January 2017. The submarine began its sea trials on 1 June 2017. The submarine was commissioned by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on 28 September 2019. INS ''Khanderi'' (S22) was a diesel-electric submarine of the Indian Navy. ''Khanderi'' was built at Sudomekh, Admiralty Shipyard and commissioned in the navy in December 1968 and decommissioned from service in 1989. The hull was scrapped, but her fin was preserved at Virbahu parade grounds. DCNS (company)
Naval Group is a major French industrial group specialized in naval defense design, development and construction. Its headquarters are located in Paris. The Chief of the Naval Staff (India), also known as the Navy Chief, abbreviated to CNS, is a statutory position in the Indian Navy held by a four star admiral. As the highest ranking officer to serve solely in the Indian Navy, the chief is the professional head of the naval branch and the principal naval adviser to the Minister of Defence. The CNS, in a separate capacity, is also a member of the National Security Council and thereby an advisor to the president and the prime minister. Dr Subhash Ramrao Bhamre (born 11 September 1953) is an Indian politician and reelected in 17th Lok Sabha. He was a member of the 16th Lok Sabha.
