IKSU Innebandy
IKSU (Idrottsklubben Studenterna i Umeå) is a sports club and nonprofit organization in Umeå. It has three facilities, ''IKSU sport'' at the Umeå University campus, ''IKSU'' plus at the Arts campus and ''IKSU spa'' in Umedalen. It has about 18,000 members. In a study conducted in 2011 by the New Zealand fitness company Les Mills International, IKSU had the second highest number of weekly visitors among 13,000 fitness centres in the world. History The organisation was formed on 5 May 1959 as ''Umeå Studenters Idrottsförening'' (USIF). In 1960, it got its current name ''Idrottsklubben Studenterna i Umeå'' (IKSU). At that time, IKSU had its premises in Ålidhem. Its first indoor arena was opened in 1983 at the Umeå University campus, where IKSU sport lies today. It has since been expanded several times. Les Mills International
Phillip Mills (born 13 February 1955 in Auckland) is a former track and field athlete and businessman from New Zealand. He is the founder, executive director, and former chief executive of Les Mills International and a founder of Pure Advantage, a green business lobby group. Sport Mills' family were all New Zealand representative at the Olympic and Commonwealth Games in track and field. His father Les was a multiple representative at both Games. Phillip, his mother, Colleen, and younger sister, Donna, were all selected for the 1974 Commonwealth Games while Les was controversially omitted from the team. Brännbollscupen
Brännbollscupen is an annual competition in brännboll in Umeå, Sweden, organised by IKSU. Brännboll is a Scandinavian game similar to baseball. Brännbollscupen was first arranged in 1974 with 44 participating teams. Throughout the years the tournament has grown to over 1000 participating teams. Since 1997, the contest has World Cup status. Brännbollscupen is always played the last weekend of May. When the sun sets and it is too dark to play brännboll, the festival Brännbollsyran takes place. Brännboll (), known as rundbold in Denmark, Brennball in Germany, and sharing the names slåball and brentball with longball in Norway, is a bat-and-ball game similar to longball, played at amateur level throughout Sweden, Finland, Norway, Denmark and Germany.
