IEEE Vehicular Technology Society
The IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) was founded in 1949 as the Institute of Radio Engineers' (IRE) Committee on Vehicular and Railroad Radio. The Society's name has changed five times since then and its scope has expanded to include not only the "Radio" of the original name, but all manners of electronics associated with vehicular systems. The Society (then known as the IRE Professional Group on Vehicular Communications) held its first "Meeting" (now Conference) in Detroit in 1950. The Society's first ''Transactions'' was published in 1952. Like the Society, the ''Transactions'' has carried many names. The Society has approximately 45 local chapters throughout the world. Field of Interest The fields of interest of the Society are the theoretical, experimental and operational aspects of electrical and electronics engineering in mobile radio, motor vehicles and land transportation. Institute Of Radio Engineers
The Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) was a professional organization which existed from 1912 until December 31, 1962. On January 1, 1963, it merged with the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) to form the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Founding Following several attempts to form a technical organization of wireless practitioners in 1908–1912, the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE) was finally established in 1912 in New York City. Among its founding organizations were the Society of Wireless Telegraph Engineers (SWTE) and the Wireless Institute (TWI). At the time, the dominant organization of electrical engineers was the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE). Vehicular Technology Conference
The Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC) is a semiannual international academic conference on wireless communications organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers' Vehicular Technology Society. History The first conference was held in Detroit, Michigan, United States in 1950 and then annually until 1998. Since 1999, the conference has been held in spring and fall, when it is known as VTC Spring and VTC Fall respectively. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is a 501(c)(3) professional association for electronic engineering and electrical engineering (and associated disciplines) with its corporate office in New York City and its operations center in Piscataway, New Jersey.
