Network As A Service
Network as a service (NaaS) brings software-defined networking (SDN), programmable networking and API-based operation to WAN services, transport, hybrid cloud, multicloud, Private Network Interconnect, and internet exchange points. Historic definitions focused on fundamental concepts of NaaS, including describing services for network transport connectivity. NaaS involves the optimization of resource allocations by considering network and computing resources as a unified whole. Description The term ''network-as-a-service'' (NaaS) is often used alongside other marketing terms like cloud computing, along with acronyms such as infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), software as a service (SaaS) and software defined networking. With the emergence of cloud computing, NaaS has become the transport not only between dynamic collaborators outside of the cloud (an update to the classic enterprise WAN architecture), but also between enterprise resources in privat ...

Voice Over IP
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), also called IP telephony, is a method and group of technologies for the delivery of speech, voice communications and multimedia sessions over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, such as the Internet. The terms Internet telephony, broadband telephony, and broadband phone service specifically refer to the provisioning of communications services (voice, fax, Short Message Service, SMS, voice-messaging) over the Internet, rather than via the public switched telephone network (PSTN), also known as plain old telephone service (POTS). Overview The steps and principles involved in originating VoIP telephone calls are similar to traditional digital telephony and involve signaling, channel setup, digitization of the analog voice signals, and encoding. Instead of being transmitted over a circuit-switched network, the digital information is packetized and transmission occurs as IP packets over a packet-switched network. They transport media streams using spec ...

Excel Communications
Excel Communications is a now defunct multi-level marketing (MLM) telecommunications company that was at one point America's fifth largest long-distance carrier after AT&T, MCI, Sprint, and Worldcom. Company history Excel was founded in 1988 by Dallas entrepreneur Kenny Troutt and Steve Smith as a long-distance reseller in the US telecom sector at the birth of telecom deregulation. In the mid-1980s, Steve Smith developed an interest in the network marketing business model. He recognized the marketing and compensation strategy was ideally suited for the marketing and distribution of services, rather than physical products. He designed and deployed his network-marketing strategy at a telecommunication startup company; this concept quickly grew to become Excel—a billion dollar publicly traded long-distance company. Excel reached a billion dollars in revenues nine years faster than Microsoft was able to and became the youngest company to have ever joined the New York Stock Exc ...

Columbia, Maryland
Columbia is a census-designated place in Howard County, Maryland. It is one of the principal communities of the Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area. It is a planned community consisting of 10 self-contained villages. Columbia began with the idea that a city could enhance its residents' quality of life. Creator and developer James W. Rouse saw the new community in terms of human values, rather than merely economics and engineering. Opened in 1967, Columbia was intended to not only eliminate the inconveniences of then-current subdivision design, but also eliminate racial, religious and class segregation. Columbia proper consists only of that territory governed by the Columbia Association, but larger areas are included under its name by the U.S. Postal Service and the Census Bureau. These include several other communities which predate Columbia, including Simpsonville, Atholton, and in the case of the census, part of Clarksville. The census-designated place had a popula ...

Unified communications (UC) is a business and marketing concept describing the integration of enterprise communication services such as instant messaging (chat), presence information, voice (including IP telephony), mobility features (including extension mobility and single number reach), audio, web & video conferencing, fixed-mobile convergence (FMC), desktop sharing, data sharing (including web connected electronic interactive whiteboards), call control and speech recognition with non-real-time communication services such as unified messaging (integrated voicemail, e-mail, SMS and fax). UC is not necessarily a single product, but a set of products that provides a consistent unified user interface and user experience across multiple devices and media types. In its broadest sense, the UC can encompass all forms of communications that are exchanged via a network to include other forms of communications such as Internet Protocol television (IPTV) and digital signage Communicatio ...

Desktop Virtualization
Desktop virtualization is a software technology that separates the desktop environment and associated application software from the physical client device that is used to access it. Desktop virtualization can be used in conjunction with application virtualization and user profile management systems, now termed user virtualization, to provide a comprehensive desktop environment management system. In this mode, all the components of the desktop are virtualized, which allows for a highly flexible and much more secure desktop delivery model. In addition, this approach supports a more complete desktop disaster recovery strategy as all components are essentially saved in the data center and backed up through traditional redundant maintenance systems. If a user's device or hardware is lost, the restore is straightforward and simple, because the components will be present at login from another device. In addition, because no data are saved to the user's device, if that device is lost, ...
