IBM Worker Organization
Trade unions have historically been unrecognized by IBM. Since the company's foundation in 1911, it has not recognized any in the United States, despite efforts by workers to establish them from 1970 onward. In Australia, Germany and Italy, several trade unions have limited recognition from IBM. IBM has been able to minimize membership even in traditional union strongholds in Western Europe. Industrial composition IBM was founded in 1911 in Armonk, New York. Over 260,000 employees work for IBM world wide as of 2023. The New York Times reported in 2017 that about a third of IBM's employees (130,000 people) worked in India, more than any other country. Enterprise bargaining is an Australian term for a form of collective bargaining, in which wages and working conditions are negotiated at the level of the individual organisations, as distinct from sectoral collective bargaining across whole industries. Once established, they are legally binding on employers and employees that are covered by the Enterprise bargaining agreement. CPSU, the Community and Public Sector Union (more commonly known as the CPSU) is a national trade union in Australia. Industrial relations or employment relations is the multidisciplinary academic field that studies the employment relationship; that is, the complex interrelations between employers and employees, labor/trade unions, employer organizations, and the state.
