I.O.O.F. Hall (Dunlap, Iowa)
The former I.O.O.F. Hall, located at 613-615 Iowa Avenue in the original commercial block of Dunlap, Harrison County, Iowa, is an historic two-story pedimented red-brick building built for local members of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Also known as the Odd Fellows Hall, it was used by Golden Rule Lodge No. 178, IOOF founded in 1869 and Guiding Star Encampment No. 68, IOOF, a higher body founded in 1874. Like many American lodge halls of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it had business and commercial space on the ground floor while the lodge hall was upstairs. In 2009 it was renovated for its owner Brad Gross, CPA, who now uses it for his professional office. On June 23, 2011, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Dunlap is a city in Harrison and Crawford counties, Iowa, United States, along the Boyer River. The population was 1,038 at the time of the 2020 census. History Dunlap was platted in 1867, and it was incorporated in 1871. The city was named for George L. Dunlap, a railroad official. Dunlap's historic Independent Order of Odd Fellows Hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places in June 2011. Geography Dunlap is located in the northeast corner of Harrison County at (41.853952, -95.599862). A small portion of the city extends north into Crawford County. Pediment
Pediments are gables, usually of a triangular shape. Pediments are placed above the horizontal structure of the lintel, or entablature, if supported by columns. Pediments can contain an overdoor and are usually topped by hood moulds. A pediment is sometimes the top element of a portico.
