I-2 Road (Bulgaria)
Republic road I-2 () is a major road in Northeastern Bulgaria. It runs between Danube Bridge, at the Danube border with Romania, and Varna, Bulgaria, Varna, at the Black Sea coast. It is long. In half of its length, between Shumen and Varna, it is superseded by Hemus motorway (A2). Description Road I-2 begins from Danube Bridge, at the Danube border with Romania. The road bypasses Ruse, Bulgaria, Ruse, the List of cities and towns in Bulgaria, fifth largest city in Bulgaria, and then runs southeast. It crosses the small town of Tsar Kaloyan, Razgrad Province, Tsar Kaloyan, bypasses Razgrad and continues towards Shumen, the 10th largest city in Bulgaria. In 2012, road I-2 between Ruse and Shumen was expanded up to 3-lane single carriageway. At the Belokopitovo interchange, road I-2 links with the Hemus motorway (A2). Danube Bridge
The Danube Bridge (also known as the Friendship Bridge; bg, Мост на дружбата, ''Most na druzhbata'' or, more commonly, Дунав Mост, ''Dunav most''; ro, Podul Prieteniei or ''Podul de la Giurgiu'') is a steel truss bridge over the Danube River connecting the Bulgarian bank to the south with the Romanian bank to the north and the cities of Ruse and Giurgiu respectively. It is one of only two bridges connecting Romania and Bulgaria, the other one being the New Europe Bridge between the cities of Vidin and Calafat. History Opened on 20 June 1954 and designed by Soviet engineers V. Andreev and N. Rudomazin, the bridge is long and was, at the time, the only bridge over the Danube shared by Bulgaria and Romania, with other traffic being served by ferries and land routes. Ruse, Bulgaria
Ruse (also transliterated as Rousse, Russe; bg, Русе ) is the fifth largest city in Bulgaria. Ruse is in the northeastern part of the country, on the right bank of the Danube, opposite the Romanian city of Giurgiu, approximately south of Bucharest, Romania's capital, from the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast and from the capital Sofia. Razgrad
Razgrad ( bg, Разград ) is a city in Northeastern Bulgaria in the valley of the Beli Lom river that falls within the historical and geographical region of Ludogorie (Deliorman). It is an administrative center of Razgrad Province. Etymology The suffix "grad" means city in Bulgarian, while the origin and the meaning of the first part "raz" is obscure. During the Second Bulgarian Empire, around the present city there was a settlement, mentioned by the names of ''Hrasgrad'', ''Hrazgrad'' and ''Hrizgrad. These names come from the name of the Bulgar and Slavic god Hors. History Razgrad was built upon the ruins of the Ancient Roman town of Abritus on the banks of the Beli Lom river. Shumen ( bg, Шумен, also romanized as ''Shoumen'' or ''Šumen'', ) is the tenth largest city in Bulgaria and the administrative and economic capital of Shumen Province. Hemus Motorway
The Hemus motorway (, ) or Haemus motorway, designated A2, is a partially built motorway in Bulgaria. Its planned length is 418 km, of which 191 km are in operation . The motorway in operation is divided into two sections — the first one links the capital Sofia with Boaza near Yablanitsa, crossing Stara planina (Balkan mountains), and the second segment connects Varna and Buhovtsi near Targovishte.
