Hundred Islands National Park
The Hundred Islands National Park is the first national park and a protected area located in Alaminos, Pangasinan in the northern Philippines. The islands, totaling 124 at low tide and 123 at high tide, are scattered in Lingayen Gulf covering an area of . Only four of them have been developed for tourism: Marcos Island, Governor Island, Quezon Island, and Children's Island. Geology The islands are believed to be about two million years old. There are actually ancient corals that extend well inland, in an area previously comprising the seabed of an ancient sea. The lowering of the sea level have exposed them to the surface. The peculiar "mushroom-like" shapes of some of the islands were caused by the eroding action of ocean waves. The Philippine bulbul (''Hypsipetes philippinus'') is a songbird species in the bulbul family, Pycnonotidae. It is endemic to the Philippines. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and subtropical or tropical moist montane forest; on Mount Kitanglad on Mindanao, for example, it is abundant in any kind of primary forest at least between 500 and 2,250 m ASL. Taxonomy and systematics The Philippine bulbul was originally described in the genus ''Turdus'' and later placed in the genus ''Ixos''. In 2010, it was re-classified to the genus ''Hypsipetes'' as it is very closely related to the type species of that genus, the black bulbul. Philippine Hawk-Cuckoo
The Philippine hawk-cuckoo (''Hierococcyx pectoralis'') is a bird belonging to the cuckoo family. It is found only in the Philippines. It was formerly classified as a subspecies of Hodgson's hawk-cuckoo (''H. fugax'') but is now commonly treated as a separate species based on differences in vocalizations. It is a medium-sized cuckoo, about 29 centimetres in length. The adult is dark-grey above and white below with a pale rufous breast and upper belly. The tail has three or four black and buff bars, a broad black band near the tip and a pale rufous tip. There is a bare yellow ring around the eye. The legs and feet are also yellow and the bill is black and olive. Immature birds have rufous barring above and brown streaks below. The bird has a high-pitched call of five to seven notes.
