Humevale is a rural locality in Victoria, Australia, north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Whittlesea local government area. Humevale recorded a population of 352 at the 2021 census. History Located between Whittlesea and Kinglake West, Humevale was originally named ''Scrubby Creek'', after a nearby watercourse. It was renamed ''Humevale'' in the 1920s by second-generation settlers, and was named after explorer Hamilton Hume, who explored nearby Mount Disappointment in 1824. The area was originally worked by paling splitters and tenant farmers, who worked in the nearby Mount Disappointment range. In 1894, the area was subdivided into small farms and a village settlement, as part of a government closer settlement scheme. A number of orchards existed in the area until the 1930s, when they were replaced by livestock grazing. Kinglake is a town in Victoria, Australia, north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shires of Murrindindi and Nillumbik local government areas. Kinglake recorded a population of 1,662 at the 2021 census. The town was one of the worst affected during the Black Saturday bushfires in 2009. Mount Disappointment is an mountain located on the southern end of the Great Dividing Range, north of Whittlesea and north of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. It was named by explorers Hume and Hovell in 1824, and is now a popular hiking spot. Mount Disappointment is the main water source of the Yan Yean Reservoir, which is in turn one of the major water supply reserves of Melbourne. Hamilton Hume
Hamilton Hume (19 June 1797 – 19 April 1873) was an early explorer of the present-day Australian states of New South Wales and Victoria. In 1824, along with William Hovell, Hume participated in an expedition that first took an overland route from Sydney to Port Phillip (near the site of present-day Melbourne). Along with Sturt in 1828, he was part of an expedition of the first Europeans to find the Darling River. Background Hume was born on 19 June 1797 in Seven Hills, near Parramatta, a settlement close to (and now a suburb of) Sydney. He was the eldest son of Andrew Hamilton Hume and his wife Elizabeth, ''née'' Kennedy. Andrew Hume got the appointment of Commissary-General for New South Wales, and came out to the colony in 1797. Kinglake West is a town in Victoria, Australia, north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Whittlesea and the Shires of Murrindindi and Nillumbik local government areas. Kinglake West recorded a population of 1,305 at the 2021 census. The town was substantially damaged in the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires, including 10 fatalities. History Kinglake West is situated north-east of Whittlesea in the Kinglake Ranges, part of the Great Dividing Range. Only Kinglake West is in the City of Whittlesea. The area was named after the surveyor Alexander Kinglake, who marked out a track over the ranges in 1878. Gold was first discovered in the area in 1861. The 2021 Australian census, simply called the 2021 Census, was the eighteenth national Census of Population and Housing in Australia. The 2021 Census took place on 10 August 2021, and was conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
