Hugo Rasmussen
Hugo Rasmussen (22 March 1941 – 30 August 2015) was a Danish bassist. Rasmussen is best known for his album ''Sweets to the Sweet'' (1978). ''Sweets To the Sweet'' was re-released in 2001 on Danish label Music Mecca. Biography He worked with, among others, Teddy Wilson, Ralph Sutton Horace Parlan, Ben Webster, Dexter Gordon, Oliver Nelson, Tom Waits, Al Grey, Wild Bill Davison, Harry Sweets Edison, Doug Raney, Ole Kock Hansen, Svend Asmussen, and Jesper Thilo. He was one of the most sought-after bass players in the world and performed on 800 albums. Rasmussen was the acoustic bassist for Norbert Susemihl's New Orleans All Stars and for his own band, Hugo Rasmussen AllStarz which he formed in 1999 with Jakob Dinesen (tenor sax), Kasper Trandberg (cornet), Andrew Hyhne (trombone), Heine Hansen (piano) and Kresten Osgood (drums). Doug Raney
Doug Raney (August 29, 1956 – May 1, 2016) was an American jazz guitarist. He was the son of jazz guitarist Jimmy Raney. Career Raney was born in New York City. He began to play the guitar when he was 14, beginning with rock and blues. He was given lessons by guitarist Barry Galbraith and became more interested in jazz. When he was 18, he played at a club in New York with pianist Al Haig. In 1977, he accompanied his father, jazz guitarist Jimmy Raney, in a duo. They toured Europe, and then Doug Raney moved to Copenhagen, Denmark. Joe Albany (born Joseph Albani; January 24, 1924 – January 12, 1988) was an American modern jazz pianist who played bebop with Charlie Parker as well as being a leader on his own recordings. Ben Webster Prize
The Ben Webster Prize is an annual jazz award set up by the Ben Webster Foundation to honour Danish and American jazz musicians as well as other professionals active in the promotion of jazz in those countries. The American jazz musician Ben Webster spent his last ten years in Copenhagen, Denmark, where he became an active part of the city's thriving jazz scene. After his death, the Ben Webster Foundation was set up to channel his annual royalties to musicians in Denmark and America. The Ben Webster Prize is part of this effort. Tenor Sax
The tenor saxophone is a medium-sized member of the saxophone family, a group of instruments invented by Adolphe Sax in the 1840s. The tenor and the alto are the two most commonly used saxophones. The tenor is pitched in the key of B (while the alto is pitched in the key of E), and written as a transposing instrument in the treble clef, sounding an octave and a major second lower than the written pitch. Modern tenor saxophones which have a high F key have a range from A2 to E5 (concert) and are therefore pitched one octave below the soprano saxophone.
