The Sham Mirrors
''The Sham Mirrors'' is the third studio album by Norwegian avant-garde metal band Arcturus. It was released on April 9, 2002. ''The Sham Mirrors'' is a departure from the band's previous albums, featuring a much more modern, space-influenced sound, as opposed to the layered, classical melodies of 1997's '' La Masquerade Infernale''. The album contains elements of trip hop, ambient music and electronica in addition to the band's usual progressive black metal sound. Lyrically, the album deals with abstract science fiction-themed subjects, a stark contrast to the theatrical and Satanic lyrics of the band's earlier work. The album cover depicts a model drawing of the upper part of the Apollo spaceship. This is the last album to feature Kristoffer Rygg on vocals. Track listing Personnel ;Arcturus * Kristoffer Rygg (credited as "Trickster G. Rex") - vocals, producer, engineer * Knut M. Valle - electric guitar, engineer * Dag F. ''Nattens Madrigal – Aatte Hymne Til Ulven I Manden'' (translated as ''"Madrigal of the Night – Eight Hymns to the Wolf in Man"'') is the third studio album by Norwegian band Ulver, issued on 3 March 1997 via Century Media. Composed and arranged during the first half of 1995, ''Nattens'' is a concept album about wolves, the night, the moon, and the dark side of mankind. Background The third and final album in what has become known as Ulver's “'' Black Metal Trilogie'',” ''Nattens madrigal'' marked the band's international debut and showcases an abrasive black metal style similar to the darker, heavier tracks on '' Bergtatt'', abandoning acoustic and atmospheric elements with an intentionally underproduced sound. The album has been described as “raw and grim black metal at its blackest.” An urban legend regarding the album is that band spent the recording budget on Armani suits, cocaine and a Corvette and recorded the album outdoors in a Norwegian forest on an 8-t ...

Bergtatt – Et Eeventyr I 5 Capitler
''Bergtatt – Et eeventyr i 5 capitler'' (translated as "''Spellbound – A Fairy Tale in 5 Chapters''") is the debut studio album by the Norwegian band Ulver, issued on February 1995 via Head Not Found. The album was recorded at Endless Lydstudio in Oslo in November and December 1994 with Kristian Romsøe as engineer and co-producer. The album was praised for its unique atmosphere and was described as "mysterious, melancholic, eerie, and oddly tranquil". The archaic Dano-Norwegian lyrics were greatly influenced by Scandinavian folktales and inspired by Baroque poets such as Ludvig Holberg and the hymn-writer Thomas Kingo. Background ''Bergtatt'', the first part of what has become known as "''The Trilogie – Three Journeyes Through the Norwegian Netherworlde''", was released during the rise of the Norwegian black metal subculture in Norway in the early 1990s. Sideshow Symphonies
''Sideshow Symphonies'' is the fourth studio album by the Norwegian avant-garde metal band Arcturus. It was released on 19 September 2005. It is the first to feature Simen "ICS Vortex" Hestnæs as the principal vocalist and Tore Moren as second guitarist, as well as the first Arcturus album released by Season of Mist. It marks yet another change in Arcturus' sound, with a cold, dreamy aesthetic featuring relatively quiet guitars, more prominent vocals, and a slightly reduced use of synthesizers. A problem during the mastering process caused some audio quality issues, most notably a substantial decrease in volume on "Shipwrecked Frontier Pioneer". The label was rumored to be working on fixing these issues for future pressings of the CD, but this seems to have never been addressed as the audio glitches are still present. "Hufsa" is the Norwegian name for The Groke, a fictional character of Tove Jansson's children's book series ''Moomin''. Track listing Artwork The album artw ...
