Hubert Van Ravesteyn
Hubert van Ravesteyn was a Dutch painter of interiors and cattle, the son of Herman van Ravesteyn. He was born at Dordrecht in 1638 and died there between 1683 and 1691. He was married 22 December 1669 in Papendrecht to Catharina van Meurs, with whom he had 8 children. His pictures, signed with the monogram H.R., are painted in a brownish tone in the manner of Cornelis Saftleven, Hendrik Martenszoon Sorgh, and others. Cornelis Saftleven (c. 1607 in Gorinchem – 1 June 1681 in Rotterdam) was a Dutch painter who worked in a great variety of genres. Known in particular for his rural genre scenes, his range of subjects was very wide and included portraits, farmhouse interiors, rural and beach scenes, landscapes with cattle, history paintings, scenes of Hell, allegories, satires and illustrations of proverbs.Wolfgang Schulz. Hendrik Martenszoon Sorgh (c. 1610 – buried 28 June 1670) was a Dutch Golden Age painter of genre works. Biography Born in Rotterdam, Sorgh became a pupil of David Teniers the Younger and Willem Pieterszoon Buytewech. Sorgh painted mostly interiors with peasants. His kitchen interiors feature elaborate still lifes. He also painted market scenes, portraits, and marine and historical scenes. Sorgh's works include, for example, ''A Man Writing'', ''Interior with Jacob and Esau'', and ''A Kitchen''. He married Adriaantje Hollaer on 20 February 1633. She became famous in 1947 because of her marriage portrait which had been painted by Rembrandt and was pictured on the Dutch 100-guilder banknote, printed from 1947 - 1950. Dutch Golden Age painting is the painting of the Dutch Golden Age, a period in Dutch history roughly spanning the 17th century, during and after the later part of the Eighty Years' War (1568–1648) for Dutch independence. The new Dutch Republic was the most prosperous nation in Europe and led European trade, science, and art. The northern Netherlandish provinces that made up the new state had traditionally been less important artistic centres than cities in Flanders in the south.
