The Hubert Kairuki Memorial University (HKMU) is a private medical university in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. It is an accredited university recognized by the government Tanzania through the Tanzania Commission for Universities (formerly known as the Higher Education Accreditation Council, HEAC). HKMU is a World Health Organization recognized medical university and appears in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED). History The university was established in 1997 by Hubert Mwombeki Kairuki (1940 - 1999), a Tanzanian obstetrician-gynecologist, educator and chairman of African evangelist enterprises. It was first named Mikocheni International University of Health Sciences (MIUHS), then Mikocheni International University, and received its present name in 1999. Bagamoyo
Bagamoyo, is a historic coastal town founded at the end of the 18th century, though it is an extension of a much older (8th century) Swahili settlement, Kaole. It was chosen as the capital of German East Africa by the German colonial administration and it became one of the most important trading ports for the Germans along the East African coast along the west of the Indian Ocean in the late 19th and early 20th century. The International Medical Education Directory (IMED) was a public database of worldwide medical schools. The IMED was published as a joint collaboration of the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) and the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER). The information available in IMED was derived from data collected by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) throughout its history of evaluating the medical education credentials of international medical graduates.
