Hubble Creek (Castor River Diversion Channel Tributary)
Hubble Creek is a stream in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri in the United States. It is a tributary of the Castor River Diversion Channel. The stream headwaters arise at just east of Fruitland. The stream flows south passing under I-55 at the intersection with US Route 61. The stream runs parallel to Route 61 through Jackson and continues south past the communities of Gordonville and Dutchtown to its confluence with the Castor River Diversion Channel at . Hubble Creek derives its name from Isthamar Hubble, a pioneer who settled at the creek in the late 1790s. Mr. Hubble was the proprietor of a mill on Hubble Creek. Cape Girardeau County, Missouri
Cape Girardeau County is located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Missouri; its eastern border is formed by the Mississippi River. At the 2020 census, the population was 81,710. The county seat is Jackson, the first city in the US to be named in honor of President Andrew Jackson. Officially organized on October 1, 1812, the county is named after Ensign Sieur Jean Baptiste de Girardot, an official of the French colonial years. Headwater Diversion Channel
The Headwater Diversion Channel is a canal in southeast Missouri. Flowing west to east, it diverts the headwaters of the Castor and Whitewater rivers and Crooked Creek directly into the Mississippi River south of Cape Girardeau. It was built between 1910 and 1916 by the Little River Drainage District. U.S. Route 61 or U.S. Highway 61 (U.S. 61) is a major United States highway that extends between New Orleans, Louisiana and the city of Wyoming, Minnesota. Dutchtown is a census-designated place (CDP) and former village in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, United States, located at the intersection of Routes 25 and 74. The population was 163 at the 2020 census. It was part of the Cape Girardeau–Jackson, MO- IL Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Dutchtown had a long history of habitation. Martin Rodner, a Hessian soldier who came to America in 1776 to fight for the British during America's Revolutionary War, moved his family to the Dutchtown area in 1801, where he owned a water mill on Hubble Creek. Because his American neighbors had trouble pronouncing his name, it became "Rodney", and his mill was known as Rodney's Mill. He died in 1827.
