Hoërskool Florida is a public Afrikaans medium co-educational high school situated in Florida, Roodepoort, Johannesburg, South Africa. It is renowned for its academic achievers, producing the highest number of top achievers in the Gauteng province and in the country over the last decade. The pupils at Hoërskool Florida have performed well in sports producing excellent results in athletics, rugby, cricket and other sports. History The cornerstone was laid on 30 September 1944 and officially opened two years later as a dual medium school (English and Afrikaans languages). The school opened with 345 pupils and 15 teachers under the leadership of the first headmaster Mr. B. G. Lindeque. Steven Bosch (born 6 June 1978) is a South African artist (working primarily in the medium of photography, video and ceramics) and creative consultant in Johannesburg. He was also a trend analyst and presenter on the Afrikaans TV program Sieners on ViaTV, a South African lifestyle channel. Lettie Viljoen was a pseudonym of the South African author Ingrid Winterbach, who primarily writes in Afrikaans. She lives in Jamestown, Stellenbosch. Life and education Winterbach was born in Johannesburg in 1948. Wahl Justice Bartmann (born 13 June 1963) is a former South African rugby union player. Playing career Bartmann matriculated in 1981 and represented the South African Schools team in the same year. In 1982 Bartmann enrolled at the Rand Afrikaans University (RAU), in Johannesburg and made his debut for Transvaal as a nineteen year old. His two brothers, Leon and Francois, also represented Transvaal at provincial level. Bartmann also played for Natal and captained the team 45 times and was part of the team that won the Currie Cup in 1990 and 1992.
