John Howie (businessman)
John Howie (12 March 1833 – 20 September 1895) was a wealthy Victorian captain of industry and investor, the proprietor of the renowned J & R Howie Hurlford Fireclay Works. He would have been about 350th on a national Rich List of Britain at the time, with a fortune equal to over £200 million today. At his death, he was one of the richest men in Scotland. Background and career Born the son of William Howie, and his second cousin Margaret Howie, Howie joined the family firm and quickly established it as one of the foremost fireclay works in Britain (later bought by Armitage Shanks), producing a huge range of items from bricks, sanitary ware such as toilets and baths, drainage materials, feeding dishes and troughs, chimneys and garden ornaments. Steve Howey (footballer)
Steven Norman Howey (born 26 October 1971) is an English football coach, former professional footballer and sports radio presenter. As a player, he was a centre back who notably played in the Premier League for Newcastle United, Manchester City, Leicester City and Bolton Wanderers, before winding up his career with brief stings in the MLS with New England Revolution and in the Football League with Hartlepool United. He was capped four times by England and was part of the Euro 96 squad. Lee Howey (born 1 April 1969) is an English former footballer who played primarily as a defender. Howey began his career at Bishop Auckland, before moving to Sunderland where he spent the majority of his career. He later player for Burnley, Northampton Town, Forest Green Rovers and Nuneaton Borough. Lee now works for payments company Trust Payments as Head of strategic sales. Kate Louise Howey (born 31 May 1973 in Andover, Hampshire, England) is a former elite British judoka. Benjamin Franklin Howey (March 17, 1828 – February 6, 1893) was an American lawyer and Republican politician who represented New Jersey's 4th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives for one term from 1883 to 1885. Early life and career Howey was born in Pleasant Meadows, near Swedesboro, Gloucester County, New Jersey. He engaged in business in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a flour and grain commission merchant in 1847 and later in quarrying and manufacturing slate. William Howie, Baron Howie of Troon (2 March 1924 – 26 May 2018), known as Will Howie, was a British Labour Party politician and Member of Parliament (MP). Howie was elected to the House of Commons at a 1963 by-election in the Luton constituency, following the appointment of Conservative MP Charles Hill as chairman of the Independent Television Authority.
