Howdenshire (UK Parliament Constituency)
Howdenshire was a county constituency in Yorkshire which returned one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, elected by the first past the post voting system. It was created for the 1885 general election, and abolished for the 1950 general election. East Riding Of Yorkshire (UK Parliament Constituency)
East Riding of Yorkshire was a parliamentary constituency covering the East Riding of Yorkshire, omitting Beverley residents save a small minority of Beverley residents who also qualified on property grounds to vote in the county seat (mainly business-owning forty shilling freeholders). It returned two Members of Parliament to the House of Commons of the Parliament. A brief earlier guise of the seat covered the changed franchise of the First Protectorate Parliament and Second Protectorate Parliament during a fraction of the twenty years of England and Wales (Scotland and Ireland) as a republic. Henry Broadley Harrison-Broadley (12 March 1853 – 29 December 1914) was a British Conservative Party politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1906 to 1914. 1895 United Kingdom General Election
The 1895 United Kingdom general election was held from 13 July to 7 August 1895. William Gladstone had retired as Prime Minister the previous year, and Queen Victoria, disregarding Gladstone's advice to name Lord Spencer as his successor, appointed the Earl of Rosebery as the new Prime Minister. Rosebery's government found itself largely in a state of paralysis due to a power struggle between him and William Harcourt, the Liberal leader in the Commons. The situation came to a head on 21 June, when Parliament voted to dismiss Secretary of State for War Henry Campbell-Bannerman; Rosebery, realising that the government would likely not survive a motion of no confidence were one to be brought, promptly resigned as Prime Minister. James Thomas Woodhouse, 1st Baron Terrington (16 July 1852 – 8 February 1921), known as Sir James Woodhouse, from 1895 to 1918, was an English Liberal Party politician. 1886 United Kingdom General Election
The 1886 United Kingdom general election took place from 1 to 27 July 1886, following the defeat of the Government of Ireland Bill 1886. It resulted in a major reversal of the results of the 1885 election as the Conservatives, led by Lord Salisbury, were joined in an electoral pact with the breakaway Unionist wing of the Liberals led by Lord Hartington (later the Duke of Devonshire) and Joseph Chamberlain. The new Liberal Unionist party gave the Conservatives their parliamentary majority but did not join them in a formal coalition. George Odey
George William Odey CBE DL (21 April 1900 – 16 October 1985) was a Conservative Party politician in the United Kingdom who served as a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1947 to 1955. He was educated at Faversham Grammar School and University College London. He was elected as MP for the Howdenshire constituency at a by-election in 1947. When that constituency was abolished in boundary changes for the 1950 general election, he was returned to the House of Commons at for the newly recreated Beverley constituency, and held the seat until its abolition for the 1955 general election. Clifford William Hudson Glossop (30 June 1901 – 4 July 1975), the son of William Glossop and his wife, Ida Muriel Hudson, was educated at Stanmore Park School and Harrow School.
