Howard County Conservancy
The Howard County Conservancy is a non-profit land trust that operates a nature center in Woodstock, Maryland. It is located at the 300-year-old, Mt. Pleasant Farm. History The center was founded in 1990 as a private land trust with the goal of protecting and preserving farmland and historic sites in Howard County. The conservancy currently manages legal easements on 1,600 acres of land. In 2014, the conservancy started a second nature center at Belmont Manor. Mt. Pleasant Farm Center The Mt. Pleasant farm dates back to 1692 when Patuxent Ranger Thomas Browne II built a log house on a land grant "Ranters Ridge". James And Anne Robinson Nature Center
The James and Anne Robinson Nature Center is a nature education facility situated on 18 acres of park land adjacent to the Middle Patuxent Environmental Area. Geothermal heating/air-conditioning, porous paving, solar panels, water conservation methods and other features make this building environmentally-friendly and have earned it the LEED Certified Platinum designation. Each year, the Center runs over 450 programs including field trips, public programs, birthday parties, home school and scout programs. Belmont Estate
The Belmont Estate, now Belmont Manor and Historic Park, is a former plantation located at Elkridge, Howard County, Maryland, United States. Founded in the 1730s and known in the Colonial period as "Moore's Morning Choice",Stein, p. 197. it was one of the earliest forced-labor farms in Howard County, Maryland. Its 1738 plantation house is one of the finest examples of Colonial Georgian architectural style in Maryland. Mountjoy Farm
Mount Joy (sometimes called Santa Fe) is a historic slave plantation in Ellicott City, Howard County, Maryland, which has a current address of 5000 Executive Park Drive. The farm is located on the original land grant named Chews Resolution Manor. In 1810, Dr. Arthur Pue owned land around modern Route 100. Pue was the family doctor for the Gorman family, who senator Arthur Pue Gorman is named after. The Pue family farmed the property with 19 slaves. In 1851, Samuel Wethered Jr. Purchased 206 acres of farmland, creating "Santa Fe" from Dr. Pue. In 1912, 193 acres of the property was purchased by the Buck Family.
