Hotel Hans Egede
Hotel Hans Egede is a four-star hotel in Nuuk, Greenland. It is named after Hans Egede and is the largest hotel in Nuuk. The hotel is located on the main street, Aqqusinersuaq. It has 140 rooms and 10 apartments and is commonly used for conferences. There are two restaurants in the hotel, Restaurant Sarfalik and A Hereford Beefstouw. The hotel has one bar, the Skyline Bar, which is located on the top floor and which has a view over Nuuk. The hotel can accommodate conferences of up to 350 people. Aqqusinersuaq
Aqqusinersuaq is a major street in Nuuk, Greenland. The street runs through the City Centre with one lane in either direction. It begins at the Nuuk Port and Harbour heading south and turns north at Sipisaq Kujalleq and then northwest at 400-talik roundabout (where it meets Eqalugalinnguit) and ends when it meets HJ Rinksvej Aqqutaa. The road runs through Nuuk's business centre, and many of the city's major landmarks are located along or nearby the street such as Hotel Hans Egede, Nuuk's City Hall (Nuuk Rådhus), and the Bank of Greenland. Aqqusinersuaq also housed Blok P Blok P, in Nuuk, was the largest residential building in all of Greenland. It contained around 320 apartments and it is said that approximately 1% of the total population of the entire island lived in the building. Nuuk
Nuuk (; da, Nuuk, formerly ) is the capital and largest city of Greenland, a constituent country of the Kingdom of Denmark. Nuuk is the seat of government and the country's largest cultural and economic centre. The major cities from other countries closest to the capital are Iqaluit and St. John's in Canada and Reykjavík in Iceland. Nuuk contains a third of Greenland's population and its tallest building. Nuuk is also the seat of government for the Sermersooq municipality. In January 2021, it had a population of 18,800. Hans Egede
Hans Poulsen Egede (31 January 1686 – 5 November 1758) was a Dano-Norwegian Lutheran missionary who launched mission efforts to Greenland, which led him to be styled the Apostle of Greenland. He established a successful mission among the Inuit and is credited with revitalizing Dano-Norwegian interest in the island after contact had been broken for about 300 years. He founded Greenland's capital Godthåb, now known as Nuuk. Background Hans Egede was born into the home of a civil servant in Harstad, Norway, nearly north of the Arctic Circle. His paternal grandfather had been a vicar in Vester Egede on southern Zealand, Denmark. Hans was schooled by an uncle, a clergyman in a local Lutheran Church. In 1704 he travelled to Copenhagen to enter the University of Copenhagen, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Theology.
