Hopwood Hall
Hopwood Hall is a Grade II* historic house in Middleton, Greater Manchester, England, which was the ancestral country home of the landed gentry family of Hopwood who held it from the 12th century, passing to the Gregge (later Gregge-Hopwood, then Hopwood) family and remaining in their possession until was closed up in 1922 and the heirs moved out. The Hall was sold in 1946, and after a series of temporary residents, by the 1980s it had fallen into disrepair; beginning in 2018 it was under renovation by the new owner, an American actor who is a distant relative of the Hopwoods. Hopwood Hall was founded as a moated site. Later, the property had pleasure grounds and an extensive park with scattered woods. Features in the grounds included a kitchen garden, ice house, ha-ha, Italian garden, fountain, corn mill and small cross-shaped bower or grotto. Hopwood, Greater Manchester
Hopwood is a suburb of Heywood, a town within the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, in Greater Manchester, England. It is north of the M62 motorway. During the Middle Ages, Hopwood formed a township within the Middleton ecclesiastical parish of the Salfordshire hundred of Lancashire. John Rhodes was one of the victims of the Peterloo Massacre of 1819. He died several weeks after the event and his body was dissected by order of magistrates wishing to prove his death was not a result of Peterloo. Hopwood has a primary school and a fire station for the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service. It also has a dentist, petrol station/shop and a cafe. Hopwood is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,090 at the 2010 census, up from 2,006 at the 2000 census. It is located in North Union and South Union townships. The village was named after John Hopwood. Geography Hopwood is located in central Fayette County at (39.874145, -79.703385). It is bordered to the north by East Uniontown. U.S. Route 40 Business (National Pike) runs through the center of Hopwood and forms the border between North and South Union townships. The center of Uniontown is to the northwest via National Pike. U.S. Route 40 forms a four-lane bypass around the south side of Uniontown, intersecting National Pike at the south end of Hopwood.
