Hopewell is a settlement and fishing village in Hanover Parish, Jamaica Jamaica (; ) is an island country situated in the Caribbean Sea. Spanning in area, it is the third-largest island of the Greater Antilles and the Caribbean (after Cuba and Hispaniola). Jamaica lies about south of Cuba, and west of His ..., located 15 kilometres west of Montego Bay. It is the location of Round Hill Hotel and Villas, a historic beachfront resort. A small fleet of fishing boats operates from the beach to the west of the center of town. Old Steamer Beach Hopewell is the location of Old Steamer Beach, west of the main center of the parish. The skeleton of the ''U.S.S. Caribou'', a wood hull steamer dating from 1887 that washed off its mooring from Mobay, is still located on the beach. Hanover Parish, Jamaica
Hanover is a parish located on the northwestern tip of the island of Jamaica. It is a part of the county of Cornwall, bordered by St. James in the east and Westmoreland in the south. With the exception of Kingston, it is the smallest parish on the island. Hanover is the birth parish of Alexander Bustamante, labour leader, first head of government of Jamaica under universal suffrage, and one of seven Jamaican National Heroes. Its capital is Lucea. History The region was initially under Spanish control as a colony until 1655, when Spain relinquished control to the English. Over time, parishes were formed to govern the island. The parish would go unnamed for many decades even though many of the towns existed. Hanover was established on 12 November 1723. Round Hill Hotel And Villas
The historic Round Hill hotel and villa resort near Montego Bay in Hopewell, Hanover, Jamaica opened in 1952. It is located on a peninsula that was originally a sugar plantation and subsequently changed to coconuts and allspice. It has entertained many celebrities and politicians including John F. Kennedy, Ralph Lauren, Paul Newman and Bob Hope. Ian Fleming was a frequent guest at Round Hill during his time in Jamaica.
