Hopetoun Hotel
The Hopetoun Hotel, colloquially referred to as The Hoey, is a historic Sydney hotel and music venue in Surry Hills, New South Wales. It was built somewhere between 1836 and 1839, originally under the name of the Cookatoo Inn and then in 1901 revamped and named in honour of the first Governor General, Lord Hopetoun. In 1997 it was purchased by siblings Evangelos and Anastasia Patakas for $1.5 million and became a live music venue that saw performances by bands including the Hoodoo Gurus and Wolfmother. In 2009, it was closed due to accumulated fines and police citations for noise violations in a residential area. It has remained shut since, though it was used in 2012 as a set for The Wolverine (film). About 30 cockroach species out of 4,600 are associated with human habitats. Some species are well-known as pests. Tim Levinson, better known by the stage name Urthboy, is an Australian hip hop MC and producer from New South Wales. He is widely known for his solo music under the moniker Urthboy, as a founding member of the hip-hop group The Herd, and for co-founding and managing the Elefant Traks record label. Because of Ghosts is a three-piece post-rock band based in Melbourne, Australia. They are often compared to bands such as Dirty Three or Godspeed You! Black Emperor. Xiu Xiu
Xiu Xiu ( ) is an American experimental band, formed in 2002 by singer-songwriter Jamie Stewart in San Jose, California. Currently, the line-up consists of Stewart (the only constant member since formation) and Angela Seo. The band's name comes from the film '' Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl'', which has influenced the sound of their music, according to Stewart. The Jezabels
The Jezabels are an Australian indie rock band formed in Sydney in 2007. The band consists of lead vocalist Hayley Mary (born Hayley Frances McGlone), lead guitarist Sam Lockwood, pianist and keyboardist Heather Shannon, and drummer and percussionist Nik Kaloper. The Grates
The Grates were an Australian indie rock band that formed in Brisbane, Queensland in 2002. They were brought to national attention in 2004 when a demo of their single "Trampoline" received airplay on radio station Triple J. ''The Clouds'' ( grc, Νεφέλαι ''Nephelai'') is a Greek comedy play written by the playwright Aristophanes. A lampooning of intellectual fashions in classical Athens, it was originally produced at the City Dionysia in 423BC and was not as well received as the author had hoped, coming last of the three plays competing at the festival that year. It was revised between 420 and 417BC and was thereafter circulated in manuscript form. No copy of the original production survives, and scholarly analysis indicates that the revised version is an incomplete form of Old Comedy. This incompleteness, however, is not obvious in translations and modern performances. Ratcat are an Australian indie rock band from Sydney who formed in 1985. The band is fronted by mainstay vocalist and guitarist, Simon Day. Their combination of indie pop song writing and energetic punk-style guitar rock won them fans from both the indie and skate-punk communities. They found mainstream success with their extended play, ''Tingles'' (October 1990), album '' Blind Love'' (June 1991) and the single, "Don't Go Now" (April), which all reached No. 1 on the ARIA Charts during 1991. Timothy James Freedman (25 November 1964) is an Australian musician, best known as the mainstay lead singer and keyboardist of the Australian band The Whitlams formed in 1993. Jenny Morris (musician)
Jennifer Patricia Morris (born 29 September 1956) is a New Zealand-Australian singer-songwriter. Her first success came with New Zealand band The Crocodiles, who had a top 20 hit single with "Tears". Re-locating to Sydney in February 1981, she was a backing vocalist for various groups and formed a trio, QED, in 1983. Morris provided backing vocals for INXS on their 1984 album, '' The Swing''.
