Fadime Şahindal (2 April 1975, in Elbistan – 21 January 2002, in Uppsala) was a Kurdish immigrant who moved to Sweden from Turkey at the age of seven. Banaz is a town and district of UÅŸak Province in the inner Aegean region of Turkey. The mayor is Zafer Arpacı ( AKP). Tulay Goren (March 1983 – 7 January 1999) was a 15-year-old Kurdish schoolgirl from Woodford Green, North London who went missing in January 1999. In December 2009, some ten years after her disappearance, her father Mehmet Goren was convicted of her murder. She was killed in a so-called honour killing because of her relationship with an older man, from a different branch of the Islamic faith. Pela Atroshi (12 October 1979 – 24 June 1999) was a 19-year-old Iraqi Kurd from Farsta, Sweden. She was murdered in an honor killing by family members after being taken from Sweden to Dohuk in Iraqi Kurdistan. She was deemed to have brought shame on the family by moving out of the family home and trying to achieve some independence. Two of Pela's uncles, Dakhaz Atroshi and Rezkar Atroshi, were convicted of her murder in Sweden and were sentenced to life in prison, later commuted to 24 and 25 years respectively. ''A Regular Woman'' (german: Nur eine Frau) is a 2019 German biographical film directed by Sherry Hormann. It is based on the life of Hatun "Aynur" Sürücü who was killed by her brother in an honor killing. Hormann stated that by 2019 people were "increasingly fencing ourselves in", so she decided to make the film. The film is narrated by an actress playing Sürücü. The characters, in the initial scene, speak Turkish until one breaks the fourth wall and acknowledges that the viewers cannot comprehend their speech, before the characters switch to German, the primary medium of the film.
