''Honeysuckle Weeks'' is the second full-length studio album by Indie pop band The Submarines. It was released through iTunes on April 15, 2008, and was released physically on May 13, 2008. The album was released through Canadian label Nettwerk. Background The album was named after the eponymous actress, Blake Hazard told ''Indy Week''s Chris Parker: "We mostly wrote and recorded the album over the course of last summer, so it was kind of the honeysuckle weeks, though it's actually the name of a British actress. We just saw her name in the credits one night from something we were watching and thought it was the most charming name ever. And it kind of reflects the summery feeling we were having". An instrumental cut of "You, Me and the Bourgeoisie" is used in the worldwide commercials for Apple's iPhone 3G. Apple also used "Submarine Symphonika" in their iPhone 3GS commercials. Blake Hazard
The Submarines are an American indie rock band from Los Angeles formed in 2006. Band history Working as solo artists in Boston, the two members of the band, John Dragonetti and Blake Hazard, were introduced through a mutual friend, Joe Klompus. Dragonetti and Hazard formed a romantic and musical partnership, then took their show to Europe. The relationship lasted for four years, but ended in the fall of 2004 when the pair moved to L.A. After the break-up, both Hazard and Dragonetti continued writing songs, and because Hazard still recorded her music in Dragonetti's home studio, the pair quickly discovered the songs they had written were about each other and their sadness in having broken up. They decided to work on a few songs together and eventually got back together, and married. John Dragonetti
John Dragonetti is an American composer, songwriter, and music producer based in Los Angeles, California. He is also a founding member (along with Blake Hazard) of the band The Submarines. Early life Dragonetti was born in Jackson, MI. His family moved to Egypt, where his father was principal of the American School in Cairo, at age 5. He spent most of his childhood in Dubai, U.A.E before attending boarding school in Nicosia, Cyprus. After high school at TASIS in Cyprus, John moved to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music. Pop career Based in Boston in 1996, Dragonetti began recording on 4-track cassette under the moniker Jack Drag. These home recordings were released by the Chapel Hill-based label, Hep-Cat. Numbers stations are shortwave radio stations believed to be operated by government agencies to communicate with deployed spies. The collection of recordings is primarily the work of Irdial-Discs founder Akin Fernandez, who began recording the transmissions of numbers stations in 1992.
