Honda RC Series
The large majority of works racing motorcycles manufactured by the motorcycle racing division of Honda of Japan, currently called Honda Racing Corporation (HRC, previously called the Racing Service Center), carry the iconic prefix RC. History of the RC name Use of the RC name stretches from Honda's entry onto the international motorcycle Grand Prix stage in 1959 to the present day. In recent years Honda has also used the RC prefix as a marketing device and applied it to certain production motorcycles that had been created for racing homologation purposes. For works Motocross bikes, there was an additional M suffix. V3 Engine
The V3 engine is a V engine with two cylinders in one bank and one cylinder in the other bank. It is a rare configuration, which has been mostly used in two-stroke engines for motorcycles competing in Grand Prix motorcycle racing. The first example was the 1955 DKW 350. The 1968 ''Suzuki RP68'' was intended to compete in the 1968 season, however a rule change mandating single-cylinder engines meant that the RP68 never raced. Honda later revived the layout for the 1982–1984 Honda NS5000/NSR500 Grand Prix racing motorcycles. The 1983–1984 Honda MVX250F and 1985-1987 Honda NS400R sports bikes also used V3 engines. A related layout was the W3 engine, although this placed all three cylinders in the same plane, but none of them in the same bank. Honda RC116
The Honda RC116 was a race motorcycle built by Honda Japan for the 50 cc class of Grand Prix motorcycle racing in the 1966 season. The motorcycle was a development of the previous RC115 version. The RC116 won three races from six during that season. Ralph Bryans finished second in the world championship, Luigi Taveri third and Honda won the constructors title. Single Cylinder Engine
A single-cylinder engine, sometimes called a thumper, is a piston engine with one cylinder. This engine is often used for motorcycles, motor scooters, go-karts, all-terrain vehicles, radio-controlled vehicles, portable tools and garden machinery (such as lawnmowers, cultivators, and string trimmers). Single-cylinder engines are made both as 4-strokes and 2-strokes. Characteristics Compared with multi-cylinder engines, single-cylinder engines are usually simpler and compact. Due to the greater potential for airflow around all sides of the cylinder, air cooling is often more effective for single cylinder engines than multi-cylinder engines. This reduces the weight and complexity of air-cooled single-cylinder engines, compared with liquid-cooled engines. Honda RC110
The Honda RC110 was the Honda racing team's first 50cc Grand Prix motorcycle racer. It was conceived in 1961 and raced during the 1962 season. As the machine was developed during the season, it was renamed the RC111 and most surviving Honda records do not distinguish between the two designations. Despite extensive development efforts throughout the season by the factory, the bike achieved only a single Grand Prix victory. Honda NSR500V
The Honda NSR500V is a race motorcycle from the Honda NSR series. It was designed and manufactured by HRC and debuted in 1996 for the Grand Prix motorcycle racing's 500 cc class. The bike was conceived by Honda to be a viable machine for privateer teams to enter the class. Characteristics The V-twin water-cooled two-stroke used the same crankcase reed-valve induction as the Honda NSR500 V4. The 100-degree V2 also used a single crankshaft, a feature common to all of Honda's GP race bikes of the time. Weighing in at 103 kg, it produced a claimed when running on hi-octane avgas. Although it made less power than its V4 counterpart (some 40-50 hp less), it was lighter, easier to ride and better handling.
