Holywell Hill Transmission Site
The Holywell Hill transmission site is located on a 260 metre hill near Killea in County Donegal, Republic of Ireland, Ireland, and is owned and operated by 2RN (RTÉ Networks), 2RN (formerly RTÉ NL). The site which is close to the border with Northern Ireland has a 60 metre self-supporting tower and was opened in 1981 to provide UHF television coverage to parts of County Donegal as well as Derry, Derry City and County Londonderry, County. It originally carried the two Irish analogue channels, RTÉ One (Ch 23), and RTÉ Two (Ch 26), in later years, both TV3 (Ireland), TV3 (Ch 29), and TG4 (Ch 33) were added, all were horizontally polarised and with an effective radiated power (ERP) of 20 kw. Effective Radiated Power
Effective radiated power (ERP), synonymous with equivalent radiated power, is an IEEE standardized definition of directional radio frequency (RF) power, such as that emitted by a radio transmitter. It is the total power in watts that would have to be radiated by a half-wave dipole antenna to give the same radiation intensity (signal strength or power flux density in watts per square meter) as the actual source antenna at a distant receiver located in the direction of the antenna's strongest beam (main lobe). ERP measures the combination of the power emitted by the transmitter and the ability of the antenna to direct that power in a given direction. RTÉ Lyric FM (stylised as RTÉ lyric fm) is an Irish classical-music and arts radio station, owned and operated by RTÉ. The station, which is based in Limerick, was launched in 1999 and is available on FM throughout Ireland (in some areas also on DAB), on Sky Digital satellite in Ireland and the United Kingdom, and via the Internet worldwide. RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta (; "Radio of the Gaeltacht"), abbreviated RnaG, is an Irish language radio station owned and operated by Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ). RTÉ Radio 1 ( ga, RTÉ Raidió 1) is an Irish national radio station owned and operated by RTÉ and is the direct descendant of Dublin radio station 2RN, which began broadcasting on a regular basis on 1 January 1926. The total budget for the station in 2010 was €18.4 million. It is the most-listened-to radio station in Ireland. Saorview
Saorview ( ) is the national digital terrestrial television (DTT) service in Ireland. It is owned by RTÉ and operated by 2RN. The service began operation on 29 October 2010 on a trial basis with a full launch on 26 May 2011. By legislation it was required to be available to approximately 90% of the population by end of October 2010 in a public testing capacity and nationwide by December 2011. The national public launch was preceded by a public information campaign, which began on 15 March 2011, with television and radio advertising beginning on 17 March 2011.
