Holley Carburetor F.C. was a U.S. soccer team sponsored by The Holley Brothers Company of Detroit, Michigan. The team went to the final of the 1927 National Challenge Cup where it fell 7–0 to the Fall River F.C. Over the next two years, it was eliminated early in the cup, but in 1930, it gained the quarterfinals before falling to Cleveland Bruell Insurance. The Holley Brothers Company
Holley Performance Products is an automotive performance company based in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It was founded in 1896 in Bradford, Pennsylvania by George Holley and Earl Holley. When the company was based in Michigan it was a major producer of carburetors for many Detroit-built automobiles. Later they manufactured carburetors for both street and racing applications such as the Holley "Double Pumper" and "Dominator". Holley-style carburetors have powered every NASCAR Sprint Cup team and every NHRA Pro Stock champion until both series eventually switched to electronic fuel injection (EFI). NASCAR Sprint Cup engines still utilize a Holley throttle body and Holley EFI is the spec EFI system in NHRA Pro Stock. Alexander Wood (soccer)
Alexander Lochian Wood (June 12, 1907 – July 20, 1987) was a Scottish American soccer defender. Wood began his club career in the United States before moving to England in the early 1930s. He also played all three U.S. games at the 1930 FIFA World Cup. He is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame. Youth Wood's parents moved the family to the United States in 1921 when Wood was fourteen years old. His family settled in Gary, Indiana, where he attended Emerson High School and gained his U.S. citizenship a year later. He also worked for the local Union Drawn Steel Company. Club career Wood began his club career with Chicago Bricklayers and Masons F.C. In 1928, the Bricklayers went to the National Challenge Cup final before losing to New York Nationals. Gerrit Visser (2 February 1903 – December 1984) was a Dutch football who played as a center forward in the Netherlands, the United States, and Canada. He was a member of the Netherlands football team at the 1924 Summer Olympics, and earned seven caps, scoring one goal, with the Netherlands national football team. Professional Visser appears to have begun his professional career in the Netherlands, playing for Stormvogels in 1924. However, at some point, he moved to the United States. In 1925, he signed with Bethlehem Steel of the American Soccer League. He saw no playing time until February 1926 when he replaced the departed Archie Stark at center forward. He then scored four goals in three games. It appears he moved to Windsor, Canada in 1926. He then moved to Detroit, Michigan where he played for Holley Carburetor from 1927 until 1931. The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, commonly known as the U.S. Open Cup (USOC), is a knockout cup competition in men's soccer in the United States of America. It is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in that country. The 2023 U.S. Open Cup competition is currently underway, with the qualifying stages taking place from September 17 - December 18, 2022.
