Holland–Bukit Timah Group Representation Constituency
The Holland–Bukit Timah Group Representation Constituency is a four-member Group Representation Constituency (GRC) located in the central, western and northern areas of Singapore. The GRC consists of four divisions: Cashew, Bukit Timah, Ulu Pandan and Zhenghua. The current MPs are Vivian Balakrishnan, Sim Ann, Christopher de Souza and Edward Chia from the People's Action Party (PAP). History Originally known as the Holland–Bukit Panjang Group Representation Constituency, it was renamed to its present name due to the Bukit Panjang ward of the GRC being carved out to form a Single Member Constituency, in return the Bukit Timah Single Member Constituency was absorbed. Parliament Of Singapore
The Parliament of Singapore is the unicameral legislature of the Republic of Singapore, which governs the country alongside the president of Singapore. Bukit Panjang SMC
The Bukit Panjang Single Member Constituency is a Single Member Constituency (SMC) located in the western area of Singapore. The current Member of Parliament for the constituency is Liang Eng Hwa of the People's Action Party (PAP) . History The seat consists the main portion of Bukit Panjang (Blks 101-129, 2xx and 4xx Fajar) and was reformed in the 2006 electoral boundary redraw. Bukit Panjang SMC existed from 1959 to 1991 when it was absorbed into the Sembawang Group Representation Constituency (GRC). In 2001, the seat was moved from Sembawang GRC to Holland–Bukit Panjang GRC. The 2006 redrawn boundaries carved out Bukit Panjang to form the current constituency and the GRC was renamed Holland–Bukit Timah GRC. Paul Anantharajah Tambyah (born 5 February 1965), is a Singaporean doctor and professor of infectious diseases, a politician, and a writer. He is President of the Asia Pacific Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infection and also President of the International Society for Infectious Diseases. Chee Soon Juan
Chee Soon Juan is a Singaporean politician, activist and former lecturer who has been serving as Secretary-General of the Singapore Democratic Party since 1993. Prior to entering politics in 1992, upon Chiam See Tong's invitation to join the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), Chee was a lecturer at the National University of Singapore. Chee subsequently succeeded Chiam as the party's secretary-general after Chiam, whom Chee and the rest of the party's leadership have had a number of disagreements, left the party. Dr. Vincent Wijeysingha (born 2 May 1970) is an academic, civil activist and politician from Singapore. He was a member of the opposition Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) 2010 to 2013. He served as the party's Treasurer and stood as a parliamentary candidate for the party 2011 general election. He was Singapore's first openly gay politician. Tan Jee Say (; born 12 February 1954) is a Singaporean politician and former civil servant who stood for the 2011 presidential election. He also founded the defunct political party, Singaporeans First. Education Tan graduated from University College, Oxford with a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy, politics and economics (PPE) under the Government Overseas Merit Scholarship. Career Tan had worked in the Civil Service for 11 years, including six years in the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) from 1979 to 1985, before leaving as Deputy Director for Economic and Manpower Planning. 2020 Singaporean General Election
General elections were held in Singapore on Friday, 10 July 2020 to elect 93 members to the Parliament of Singapore across 31 constituencies. Parliament was dissolved and the general election called by President Halimah Yacob on 23 June, on the advice of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. It elected members of parliament to the 14th Parliament of Singapore since Singapore's independence in 1965, using the first-past-the-post electoral system. Voting was mandatory for all Singaporeans who were aged 21 or above as of 1 March 2020. This election was the 18th general election in Singapore and the 13th since independence. 2011 Singaporean General Election
General elections were held in Singapore on 7 May 2011. President S. R. Nathan dissolved parliament on 19 April 2011 on the advice of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Voting is mandatory in Singapore and is based on the first-past-the-post system. Elections are conducted by the Elections Department, which is under the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister's Office. Nomination day was held on 27 April 2011, and for the second election in a row, the PAP did not return to government on nomination day, but it did return to government on polling day. Liang Eng Hwa
Liang Eng Hwa ( zh, s=连荣华, p=Lián Rónghuá; born 1964) is a Singaporean politician and banker. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), he has been the Member of Parliament representing Bukit Panjang SMC since 2020 and previously the Zhenghua division of Holland–Bukit Timah GRC between 2006 and 2020.
