Holdsworth, West Yorkshire
Holdsworth is an area of Halifax in West Yorkshire, England, north of the town centre. It was historically a village in the township of Ovenden, in the ancient parish of Halifax in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Since 1974 it has been part of the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale. Holdsworth House is a Jacobean mansion built in 1633, now used as a hotel. It is a Grade II* listed building. Holdsworth was also the site of St Catherine's Catholic High School, closed in 2013 and now part of Trinity Academy. Calderdale
Calderdale is a metropolitan borough of West Yorkshire, England, whose population in 2020 was 211,439. It takes its name from the River Calder, and dale, a word for valley. The name Calderdale usually refers to the borough through which the upper river flows, while the actual landform is known as the Calder Valley. Several small valleys contain tributaries of the River Calder. Calderdale covers part of the South Pennines, and the Calder Valley is the southernmost of the Yorkshire Dales, though it is not part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The borough was formed in 1974 by the merger of six local government districts, from east to west Brighouse, Elland, Halifax, Sowerby Bridge, Hebden Bridge and Todmorden. West Yorkshire
West Yorkshire is a metropolitan and ceremonial county in the Yorkshire and Humber Region of England. It is an inland and upland county having eastward-draining valleys while taking in the moors of the Pennines. Halifax, West Yorkshire
Halifax () is a minster and market town in the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale in West Yorkshire, England. It is the commercial, cultural and administrative centre of the borough, and the headquarters of Calderdale Council. Ovenden
Ovenden is a village in West Yorkshire, England, next to Boothtown and Illingworth about a mile from Halifax town centre. It is also a Calderdale Ward whose population at the 2011 Census was 12,351. Ovenden railway station on the Halifax and Ovenden Junction Railway Line closed in 1955 to passengers but the line remained open until 1960 to allow freight train to access St Paul's station on the west side of Halifax. Ovenden rugby league club competed in the National Conference League up until 2015 before having to withdraw due to a lack of players and finance. Similarly, Ovenden West Riding football team folded in August 2016 for the same reason of not having enough players to field a team. The West Riding of Yorkshire is one of three historic subdivisions of Yorkshire, England. Holdsworth House
Holdsworth House is a Grade II* listed building at Holdsworth in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. Built in 1633, it is a Jacobean mansion built in sandstone with narrow, leaded windows. Hotel Holdsworth House is currently used as a four star hotel with 36 rooms. The restaurant was given a two rosette rating by The Automobile Association. St Catherine's Catholic High School
St Catherine's Catholic High School was a Catholic comprehensive secondary school in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. The school was named after Catherine of Siena.
