Holcomb USD 363 is a public unified school district headquartered in Holcomb, Kansas, United States. The district includes the community of Holcomb and nearby rural areas. History Effective July 1, 2018 Scott Myers became the superintendent. He was previously a superintendent of other districts and an employee of the Kansas State Department of Education. In 2018 the leadership of Holcomb USD considered the construction of an indoor pool but decided against it. The school district historically owned an apartment building. Holcomb is a city in Finney County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 2,245. History Holcomb took its name from a local hog farmer. The city was a station and shipping point on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. The first post office in Holcomb was established in December 1909. 1959 murders The town of Holcomb was thrust into national and, eventually, international notoriety after November 15, 1959, when four members of the prominent Clutter family (father Herbert, 48; his wife Bonnie, 45; their youngest daughter, Nancy, 16; and son Kenyon, 15) were found bound and shot to death in various rooms of their home, on the family's River Valley Farm on the outskirts of Holcomb. Two ex-convicts, Richard ("Dick") Hickock and Perry Smith, were arrested, tried, and convicted of the killings. The Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) is the organization which oversees interscholastic competition in the U.S. state of Kansas at the high school, high-school level. It oversees both athletic and non-athletic competition, and sponsors championships in several sports and activities. History The Kansas State High School Activities Association was formed in 1937 and incorporated in 1956. As early as 1910, Kansas schools organized the statewide Debate League and Athletic Association governed by high school principals. The Athletic Association started as a small voluntary group of fewer than 50 schools and grew to more than 500 schools by the 1920s. Out of necessity, the member schools adopted eligibility and participation rules and established authority for a Board of Control to assess penalties against schools for violations. Holcomb High School (HHS) is a public high school in Holcomb, Kansas, United States operated by Holcomb USD 363, and serves students of grades 9 to 12. The school colors are black and orange; the enrollment for the 2009–2010 school year was approximately 269 students. Holcomb High is a member of the Kansas State High School Activities Association and offers a variety of sports programs. Athletic teams compete in the 4A Division II and are known as the "Longhorns". Extracurricular activities are also offered in the form of performing arts, school publications, and clubs.
