Karl Andreas Hofmann (2 April 1870 – 15 October 1940) was a German inorganic chemist. He is best known for his discovery of a family of clathrates which consist of a 2-D metal cyanide sheet, with every second metal also bound axially to two other ligands. Joseph Ehrenfried Hofmann
Joseph Ehrenfried Hofmann (* 7 March 1900 in Munich, †7 May 1973 in Günzburg ) was a German historian of mathematics, known for his research on Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. Life and work After graduating from high school in 1919 at the Wilhelm Gymnasium in Munich, Hofmann studied at University of Munich with Walther von Dyck and George Faber, gaining Ph.D. in 1927. He was briefly an assistant in Munich and Darmstadt, before he went into the teaching profession in Gunzburg, Nördlingen. As a student he was drawn to the history of mathematics after observing his mentor Faber publishing works of Euler. Another influence was Henry Wieleitner, with whom he published several works on the history of calculus. As a school teacher, he continued his historical studies. In 1939 he habilitated in the history of mathematics at the University of Berlin. From 1940 to 1945 he edited an edition of the works of Leibnitz for the Berlin Academy of Sciences. Josef Casimir Hofmann (originally Józef Kazimierz Hofmann; January 20, 1876February 16, 1957) was a Polish-American pianist, composer, music teacher, and inventor. Biography Josef Hofmann was born in Podgórze (a district of Kraków), in Austro-Hungarian Galicia (present-day Poland) in 1876. His father was the composer, conductor and pianist Kazimierz Hofmann, and his mother the singer Matylda Pindelska. He had an older sister – Zofia Wanda (born June 11, 1874, also in Krakow). Isaak Löw Hofmann, Edler von Hofmannsthal (10 June 1759 in Prostiboř – 12 December 1849 in Vienna) was an Austrian merchant. Life During the famine in Ansbach in the middle of the 18th century, Hofmann's parents had emigrated from Pretzendorf (now Himmelkron), near Bayreuth, to Bohemia, where they lived in very poor circumstances. His early training he received at home, and from his thirteenth year he studied at Prague as a ''"bachur"'' ( Talmudic scholar) under Rabbi Abraham Plohn. After completing his studies he entered as teacher the house of Joel Baruch, a tobacco farmer for the Austrian government. Besides giving instruction to the children, Hofmann took charge of the books of his employer. When in 1788 Baruch moved to Vienna and opened a wholesale house there, Hofmann was appointed manager of the entire business. Henner Hofmann, AMC, ASC, (born July, 1950) is a Mexican cinematographer, producer and screenwriter. Early life Hofmann was born in Mexico City, Mexico. Both of his parents were artists. His father, Herbert Hofmann Isenburg, was a sculptor who was born in Frankfurt, Germany. He studied at the Ballhaus and later in Paris in the workshop of the French sculptor Aristide Maillol, and arrived in Mexico in 1939. His mother, Kitzia Hofmann, created stained glass art for churches in Mexico and the United States. Hofmann has said that one of the films that has had a strong impression on him was the short film ''The Red Balloon'' (1956) shot by Edmond Séchan.
